Ya just gotta love how a thread about a PC not working properly turns into a Mac-bashing session.

What does linkscanner do? I don't want to disable it if scans for virii before it opens another link up.....

I do look at a lot of porn, ya know........

So, to get back on topic, there is an excellent article at https://windowssecrets.com on how XP SP3 is NOT ready for prime time. The article is only available in the paid version of the newsletter, but you can subscribe to the newsletter for whatever dollar amount you think it is worth to you. It's an excellent source of knowledge for Windows issues. No affiliation, just a happy, informed subscriber.

Probably won't get anything(virii) more that you don't already have...

Well I am with you on this. Too many of the updates messes up the system for some of my Best Older Programs. I do the Critical Patches one at a time and keep a database of all the patches, if and when I need them.

If you are just a Power Word user, you may be fine. I just have not been so lucky with these Multi-Major updates. Just keep a Strong Firewall and some Good Antivirus and you can eliminate most problems.

After all these years the boys in Redmond are still using us as Beta testers. Don't you just get sick of it?

For Christ's sake! Half of Redmond and Bellevue are covered with Microsoft buildings! You'd think they got enough people to get their shit straight. To think I used to get drunk, smoke dope and ride mini bikes where the main MS campus is now. Used to be known as Eighty Acres. How times have changed...

Any time Microsoft releases a massive update like SP3, they will always run into some goofy problems like borking the Hewlett Packard AMD machines. There are just too many different types of hardware out there running their operating system and too much software created by too many different companies to avoid that. Not defending the Vole, it's just a fact.

I've put SP3 on a couple of my machines with no problems. No slow-down and seems just as stable as before. Although reading this thread made me check into that Flash Player vulnerability that somehow SP3 brings back... I understand this is something that was fixed back in 2006 but SP3 must replace a patched file or something. So a quick download of the latest Flash player and I'm secure again :clapping: Uh huh...sure you are!

It's not perfect, but what can ya do? I wouldn't know how to run an Apple. At least SP3 will help me avoid Vista a little longer!
