Hi All,

I have recently gotten into a collision with my previous bike (Kawi ZR7S)...accident was not my fault and I am going to receive full value on it as I had full coverage with full replacement value coverage. I was thinking of switching over with the insurance payout to a used '04 FJR sitting in a dealershow room. I am wondering if you guys can let me know if there is anything I should be on the lookout for with regards to this model year or anything in general about FJR's that are considered common problems. I tried the search functioni but came up empty handed, any help would be appreciated. The FJR in the showroom is showing 3400km (roughly 2100 miles) on the odo, it looks clean and I don't think it is an ABS model since it doesn't have a ABS sticker on the front fender.

Thanks!

Make sure it comes with an extended warranty, or any problems (other than the "tick") will be on you. Personally, I would keep shopping for an ABS, might help you avoid a future getoff.

Your choosing the right year/color of bike. As you will learn as you become more familar with this Forum the '04 Silver color is for some reason faster than the bikes in the the Blue color (05's and 06's), the reason is still not clearly known, but a fact non the less!

You mean other than the growing need to spend huge sums of cash on farkles?

Pay no attention to MikeYork5. It's common knowledge that the '05 was and still is the fastest. John Hopkins did a survey of '04 owners and found that their constant bragging was simple compensation for a small member.

Man, whoever owned that bike b4 surely didn't appreciate it! Hardly no miles on that big & silver girl! I've got over 27,000 miles on my '04 non-abs. Kinda' wish that I had gotten it... but not going to fret over it nor has it been a problem. The braking on the FJR is exemplary. Bottom line is ABS isn't an excuse for not developing good braking habits (remember that ABS owners)

Anyway what's the dealer asking for it?

As stated b4... if purchased be sure to walk away with a warranty. You might want to listen for any engine ticking b4 purchase, too.

edited to add: It doesn't matter the color... I'm pretty sure that they are all pretty damn fast. Mine has been scary fast to me in the past.

The pre-06 models are slower and hotter. Not sure where you live, but may want to consider the heat issues that are well documented on here. If you can afford it, find an 06. I've had both an 03 and now an 06 and it is way superior IMO.

hmm....have there been that many problems with the bike that i need an extended warranty on it? a few of you have mentioned it on this post regarding the extended warranty...I don't believe it has warranty left on it (the original)...i'm up in toronto area, so the prices/dollars are in canadian (roughly 90% of what the american dollar is at the moment) the dealer is asking $11800...a new one is going for $18,900 I'd rather save myself 7 grand from a new one if possible...my other option was just to get a wing with the ins. payout...

chiller....Mike-H....where is the bike....I'm in the GTA & own an 04....maybe I can help?

bike right now is up at suzuki of brampton, they open until 9pm tonight, i already called my old man and he wants to come up with me to go and check it out tonight, you are welcome to check it out either go up there or go tonight (perhaps you'll see me), i'll be the one gimping around if you see me...i'd love to have a second opinion...

chiller....can't get there tonight but if you like I'll go up in the morning....(I live in Oakville)....I should know one or two of the lads there....so if there is anything to know I should hear about it....is that good for you?

Chiller, the Y.E.S. warranty for the FJR should be purchased or just thrown in. You are buying a used vehicle from a dealer. You have no idea the maintenance history (as limited as it is). If you purchase the extended warranty, you'll never need it. If you don't purchase the warranty you'll need it tomorrow.

Buy an '06. With the vastly superior charging system on the '06, you can sell your excess electricity generating capacity back to the utility companies. I'm currently providing 20% of the electrical service to Akron, OH.

Who run Bartertown???

I don't think you need thye YES. The only real problem that has come up is the ticking and every one I've heard of was fixed by Mommy Yammie in or out of warrenty.

I've got an '04 with 19k on the clock and the biggest problem I've had with her is that I have to wash her every couple of weeks :p BTW the silver is the quickest color ;)
