Yep!! I do like the blue better, buying a bike on the cheap made that decision irrelevant. By the way this is a non-ABS bike
Oh well ! Ya coulda got my 03 (shameless plug) but sounds like you got a good deal

OK I am an owner! I stayed up late last night searching and wound up buying 2004 cerulean silver with a whopping 7400 miles on the ODO for the princely sum of $3500. The bike runs and rides perfectly however it has a bunch of scratches on the right side of the bike from the original owner who scratched it up in his garage Parking it too close to another bike and falling into it. Oops. It's noticeable but it's surface I will see if it bothers me after a while and maybe correct it maybe not. Tires are just OK I could see myself putting a new set on in the next five or 6000 miles. I will post pictures in a bit.
First off, Congrats!

Can we assume that the '04 has the ABS you wanted?

You will probably find that new tires only last 5 or 6 thousand miles on these beefy bulls, especially the rear tires. Or did you mean to say the next 5 or 6 hundred miles?

If either of them are the original tires they will probably be a bit dry rotted by now. A good set of new rim skins may be a good idea sooner rather than later.

Good luck with your new feej. May you make many happy memories together. ;)

Wooohooooo! Those scratches will fade over time, especially if you ride far.

What I mean is, you'll stop noticing the scratches because you're focused on the ignition and sticking the key into it. Trust me on that, sailor boy!

But you're right on target. These are pretty awesome bikes no matter the year.

I still remember my first ride on my first FJR. I bought the bike used with no test ride. It was at a used-only dealership (that I trust, which is saying something), was only 1 model year old and had 10k miles on it and had a 5 year YES warranty. How could I go wrong?

I had been riding a Connie 1000 before that, which was like a Russian tractor in comparison to the refinement of the FJR.

Nothing better than putting something like this on a bucket list and waiting oh so patiently and then throwing a leg over and knowing within a few miles it was worth the wait.

I think I mentioned earlier it DOES NOT have ABS. I have had a couple of BMW's with it and I think its cool but I can live without it. I do wonder where the top gear is? Seems like it should have one more???

I have gone through soooo many other bikes and have a VFR800 in the garage now and with only 35 miles on the FJR its already right up there. I am still a bit of BMW nut, but for the price and my past favorable experiences with YAMAHA its gotta be best bang for the buck!

I would like to do the tires if you guys can point me to a good combo/price.

That is a great deal. I just touched the bike up, wow it is sooooo clean minus the scratches! I will get some pics soon. The front tire is in great condition, back tire is down to 40% and looks like its never seen a chicane.....

Huge congrats on a screaming '04 deal...you did good!

Not to turn this into a tire thread, but have a look at Fred's linked threads ^^^^ and spoon on a new set of tires. Those will make your new [to you] bike even better!

Enjoy!

Dear SD1,

Report back with mph reading when in fifth gear at 9,000 rpm and try convincing me that the FJR needs a sixth gear. (And please be careful!)

Sincerely,

Uncle Hud

Need to link from an external source and make sure the extension is .jpg and not .jpeg.

Congrats on the bike. It will supply many smiles for your delight. A new set of tires would be advisable. I put a set T30s on mine and the handling improved! I have 11K on this now with about 2-3K left on them. Happy with long life of the Bridgestones.

No I know it's fast, just seems it could use an OD
It already has one. 5th gear is an overdrive. Consider it a 4 speed w/ overdrive if that makes you feel differently. ;)

ALSO, I cannot upload or link images???
Upload, no.

Link yes. There are several good threads with instructions that tell how to do that.

Look in the "software and board operations" sub section.

Wow! That sorta took me back a couple of years.

Other than those few scratches you mentioned I don't see any of the usual wear marks anywhere on it.

Very clean. Congrats and best of luck with it.

Now, when you need help spending more money don't hesitate to ask. My suggestions would be FZ-1 mirrors and 90° metal stems when doing the tires.
