I have a new FJR, and have throttle loss as I climb in altitude. Does anyone have a solution besides turning the bike off and starting again as I climb? The local dealer acted like they have never heard of it...go figure.

Cheferic, There are several relatively active postings going on here regarding this topic. Brand me a dick if you wish but, push the search button.

Thank you for your oooohhhh sooo helpful info! I did search! Most are huge posts and I thought that someone in the community would be willing to share quick info without having to be an ASS!

Well, its a long and complicated issue. My bike does not suffer from this ailment, yet I have read all of the posts on it. If you want the short version, here it goes:

1) Lots of bikes suffer from this ailment.

2) Yamaha appears to be working on it.

So you were looking for someone to read through all the information and give you the cliff notes version.

Maybe they're lengthy post because they're full of great information.

Like I said in another recent post: 75% of the "dick" responses would be eliminated if people would use the freaking "search" button before they started a new thread about something that's been eaten - puked up - and repuked- don't be lazy.

What kills me is you did the search part - then decided to start a new thread after seeing the extensive amount of data and experience available.

Even though I've heard some here say how it's impossible, I just got back from a 3500 mile trip and my bike only suffered from it once. I was at 9000+ feet and it was cold and raining. The previous day I was at 9000+ feet and it was cold but not raining and the bike ran fine. All in all I spent almost a week at or above 6000 feet and, except for once when it was raining while riding Lizard Head Pass, the bike was flawless. During the rain on Lizard Head Pass it suffered from mild surging but was still very ridable.

Thanks Fuzzyrider. Both times it has happened to me it has been sunny and in the 50's or 60's. Both between 5500 and 6500 feet. The times it has happened are on gradual inclines heading up to a peak. I ride a set of twisties that goes from 3000 to 7200 feet pretty quick. I go do it pretty fast and it has not happened yet. I can't figure out what makes the two rides different even if it is the same elevation change. I am pretty much keeping a log to try and see what makes it different.

I've noticed the same thing as FuzzyRider. Mine did it a couple times on my last trip to Colorado. Both times it was raining and cold. The second time I had no choice but to pull over and restart it. Acted like it was out of gas. Didn't matter how much throttle I gave it, just wouldn't go. This was on Hwy 64 in New Mexico where it isn't really all that high. I had climbed from Tierra Amarilla to the top of the little pass between there and Tres Piedras.

As far as Yamaha working on a fix, I don't know. When I get a recall letter I'll know for sure. The dealer is a joke.

It's a pain in the ass and Yamaha should fix it, but I can live with mine until someone finds a fix.

If it gets worse, it might fall off a cliff in Colorado.

"I don't know what happened officer. Just pulled over to take a piss and the damn thing rolled off the cliff".
