"As long as the helicopter is isolated from the ground, we have the ability to bring ourselves to the same voltage potential, blah, blah, blah..."

Meaning: as long as we don't crash!!!

I saw something about the suits they wear on the Discovery channel. Its actually a metal mesh woven suit that the electricity can flow trough and not harm the worker. Thast some pretty crazy stuff

Whatever it pays, it is not enough!

The copter pilot had best be highly skilled too.

I used to work in heavy construction and working on a bridge high over the water is as far as this body and brain are willing to go.

I have a former student who was a crane oiler and the crane boom got to close to high tension lines on a foggy morning. The voltage traveled down the boom, out of the track and into his arm at the elbow. Luckily for him the shock traveled down his arm and back into the track of the crane. The kid lost his arm, it was totally cooked like a chicken leg left on the grill way tooooo long. He did survive though. The crane operator was not injured.

Linemen were working on the high tension lines next to the school I work at. They were using explosion welding technology which was very cool. It rocked the house big time.

I see them flying by often in a helicopter checking the lines but I have not seen anyone riding like that...yet.

I would love that job. At least the flying part would be exciting. I have mentioned it before to my SO that it would be cool. I learned how to hover from a real pro when I started to fly. He would make me keep the front part of 1 skid on a fence post and leave it there. It was fine when you could see it on your side, but then he would make me switch.

You need to keep it real still in that bird with the lines (obviously) but that is the great part of it. They are flying Bell's OH-6 which is a really versatile helicopter. Spec Ops guys still fly them all around the world. We have Bell Jet Ranger here doing stuff similar. Just never seen a guy hanging on the lines.

My first wife has worked for this company and now a shoot off for over 20 years now. She was the first women to ground out on a plat form in the mid 80's. Pretty scary stuff.
