a couple of years ago some motorcycle rider in NC was hit while riding and killed.

Just yesterday in Houston, four adult males, who were playing soccer, were hit by lightning WHEN THEY ALL HUDDLED UNDER A TREE TO GET OUT OF THE STORM.

Our house was hit last year, chance that my wife was inside ( she did not get hurted  ),

but she could call the fireman on time, when they reach my house the roof was burning.

Damage only to the roof by the fire, not much $ 8,000.00 damage, but electrical problem

done my the electromagnetic field, had for about $ 40,000.00.

Voltage has been measured at 100,000 volts from lighting strikes.
So, if that's true, and current is 1.21 gigawatts, what would the amperage be? I don't know how many zeros are in a gigawatt.

Was He wearing a Helmet?????????
Thats the only question the Safety Nazi's are going to ask.....
I'd be interested in what his religious affiliation was. I mean damn, a moving target at 60 mph....

:rip_1:

Good luck in that Faraday cage if it's anywhere close to ground, also think lightning is closer to a million volts.

I do believe that airplanes have lighting rods that are sized just for lighting strikes.

As for the instrumentations all should be and (not for sure )but are mounted with an insulator between metal and instraments and should be grounded and sized for a ground fault occurance

As far as the faraday cage it may work once in a while under a controlled situation like in you tube, but I value my life more than where the rubber meets the road with steel belts in the tires.

As far as getting under a tree that is a no -no, end result death. When I was 12 some friends had a swimming pool and got under an oak tree result lightning struck and killed them both, thought they were safe.

Remember you are ground and lightning seeks all paths to ground and it will seek you out.

So what do you do in a lightning storm riding down the road?

Has any riders out there thought of what might happen to all their farkles if lightning struck close to there bike of or hit there bike while riding and having them in the on position?

weekend rider :) :D
