I have been slow on this but here it is.

First nice product, very well made, hardware is very nice, and the Hugger fits very nice on the form of the swing arm where it sits.

Took a full 30 days to come and was well packaged in bubble wrap, but the box was well worn and rode hard for sure!

I love it and am pleased with the purchase.

I do need to wait till summer and remove what I can of the existing flap but have just pushed it forward into the shock tower area for now. I have been riding still and have about 700 miles on it and notice nothing out of the ordinary.

I cant say enough how much I like it.

Now some pics:

LAF, thanks for the detailed pics. From the pics it seems like the LHS bracket is a bit bulky and crude looking. I am wondering why they didn't opt for securing the hugger to a couple of bolts holding the pumpkin on, these wouldn't generally need to be touched (like during the wheel removal) and would be more hidden...

Not sure how they could do that because of the curve going around the pumpkin. The right side they use the brake stay bolt with the strait support. Also have to remember I was on the ground shooting up at it for detail, not sure anyone would comment on it if they are not looking for it.

I can live with it as my thoughts were the same when I first saw it. It is polished aluminum on the side facing out and is masked where it was cut out.

As I said I do like it and it will allow me to hack the rear tail a bunch as it does provide excellent protection.

Hell I will just let it go gray road color with the rest of the bike, and you will never know :)

I would guess once you receive it you could work off the pattern and see if it can be hacked to fit in another place. I dont have access to any metal working shops or friends.

As I said I am happy but need to look at the existing flap and mounting to get it off, and then want to look at chopping the license plate area a bit.

I have no idea what the last "hugger" offering looked like but this one overall is pretty nice.

Just finished the installation on my 06. Sure wish I had these pictures for guidence because instructions are worthless.

I did not even bother with them. I just held the pieces up to see where they should mount and did it. It took me a bit to see I had to use the rear brake stay bolt. Overall though I knew the one on the pumpkin went only one way, so I was 50% done.

Really not that bad to me, but I do like a challenge.

I just got my hugger in today, I have not open it yet. I will post pictures when I get it on, I'm going to have my wheels polished first. :yahoo:

BTW the huggers are on sale for $131.21 and there is 3 left

Bought a HLD hugger after seeing it mentioned on this forum. Fitted it this afternoon

Very happy with the Hugger now its fitted. Instructions are poor but its easy to work out how to fit. Its marketed for all marks of FJR as a straight bolt on accessory but I had to do a little filing to get it to fit my MK1.

hugger012.jpg

It comes with a couple stainless brackets which its mounts to

First thing I did was remove the rubber mud flap to give room for the rear of the hugger to sit on the swing arm.

hugger015.jpg

Then I had to remove the brake line bracket (probably won’t need to do this on the MK111 but you will also have to remove the brake line bracket on the MK11 as it will get in the way)

hugger004.jpg

I wasn’t subtle I just cut the bracket so that the brake line could be freed without unbolting it from the calliper and having to re bleed

MK11

hugger005.jpg

Mount the first smaller bracket to the torque arm

hugger017.jpg

Then mount the larger bracket to the hub

hugger018.jpg

hugger020.jpg

Then sit the hugger on the swing arm. I had to file a little of the hugger away on the front right leading edge so it would sit properly (you may not need to do this on the MK111) as there a small bit of swing arm casting which won’t let it sit flush.

hugger022.jpg

Once done everything lines up correctly . I then tightened up the four mounting bolts (I added stainless washers which didn’t come with the kit) after putting some thread lock on the bolts.

Once done I then removed the protective film from the hugger. It sits well, is nice quality , and is secure but it could possibly do with a couple of Velcro type fasteners at the front (only time will tell).

All I have to do now is touch up the swings arm. (not caused during the fitting of the hugger)

Way more pics than I took and could host but good information.

On the mud flap is it just pulling it out of the holes past those nubs to remove it?

And as far as fit mine was perfect but I am one never to let perfection stand in my way. So on Spring clean up I have a 1/8" dense foam tape I am going to do the flat of the hugger with to help with any imperfections on the swing arm and to keep any rattle out of the picture and seal it on rubber. I also then will look at cutting the license plat bracket down a bit. In the rain the hugger works way better then the OEM setup at keeping rain off the underside.

Very happy with mine!

LAF re fitting its fitted to a UK Mk1 bike which was never imported into the US so the swing arm may be ever so slightly different to the US MK1 bike. This may be why I had to tinker with it a little. On ebay the Hugger is specifically sold for the 06 on bikes with a line in the description stating it will fit all FJRs.

Mud flap just pulls out with a firm pull

Thank you on the mud flap info.

As I said mine fit very well to the swing arm but I can always improve on stuff ;-)

Really just want to make sure it is down and not getting my shock sock wet :)

Seriously just want to cushion it to prevent any vibration or whistle from occurring. Besides I have the compression tape just sitting around.

well i couldn't resist and ordered one myself.......

lets see how long it takes to get to Cali.......

From the various pics it looks like the hugger would need to be loosened/removed at least partially when changing the rear wheel - is that right?

Ok Guys! I've been watching this Thread for a while now and the little hairs on the back of my neck are starting to tingle. That means I'm ready to pull the Trigger!

I, also thought that my ugly donkey tail was waaay too long so, I chopped it a little so the rectangular reflector is flush with the bottom of the licence plate. Looks Great and still does the job! :clapping:

All I get is a tiny bit of Splooge on my tailight lense when the asphalt is moist. No big deal, I just wipe them down daily. He's my question.

For those of you that's had it in wet asphalt for a while now, How much crap does it really prevent? Especially those of you with shorter donkey tails.

Does it do a nice job keeping the Wheel Well Cleaner? Thanks in Advance! :)

Well you need to remove that 1 1/16" nut to remove the wheel but I think the hugger will stay in place no problem. Should be a non issue.
