*disclaimer to the repeated question and use-the-search-engine advocates*:

i did a search for "frame hole" as well as "frame hole plug" and it did not answer my question.

*end of disclaimer*

i must have gotten a black market fjr, as i've heard no one else discuss this, nor could i find any reference to it. what's with the hole in the frame, with the rubber plug, on the right hand side of the bike, about where your right knee is when you're on the bike? for running wiring for electric vest or to power stuff in a tank bag?

I can't find the discussion either, but remember it's something to do with the casting process and all of the FJRs I've seen.

Actually, that is a hole for the tool required to remove the restrictor plate on the French detuned FJRs. The oval shape holds the "foot" of the tool so the stem will extend into the engine bay. Its actually pretty interesting to watch because the mechanic has to insert an angled mirror under the injectors. Its reminiscent of surgery. :dribble:

Or maybe your bike was built on Friday and they were out of the aluminum caps that are supposed to plug that hole.

 :yahoo:

Most likely its absolutely normal...since they're all like that. Its been so long since the question has arisen it was probably lost from the archives during the "hack". IIRC, its a relief hole from the casting process for the frame tube.....or maybe an inspection hole for checking the welds. Either way, don't worry.

Still causing trouble after all these years.

It is the access hole for the cam chain tensioner. Really. :) Pop out the plug and you should be able to see the head of the bolt that needs to be removed to gain access to the actual adjuster.

edit....nice simulaneous post......
Edit II -- Not only that, but we both have nearly the same answer! Howza 'bout that!!

Actually.....if it is the hole I am thinking of it is used to access the cam chain tensioner bolt when servicing the cam chain and/or removing the cams for lash adjustment. Take the rubber plug out and a long philips screwdriver will reach thru the hole directly to the cam chain tensioner adjustment which would be inaccessible otherwise.

I discovered it was the hole all the extra horsepower oozes out of when you don’t use them enough. (Observed on another riders bike) .

That hole is where the inflation pump is attached during dealer set up.

This enables the dealer to quickly and efficiently inflate your new motorcycle- saving them time, and ensuring that consistency is applied across all FJR's, regardless of delivery location.

However, those bikes delivered in France are not inflated to the same high pressure as the ROW bikes - resulting in a 'de-tuned' version.

...sweet...

thanks guys for the info and humor. i knew it wasn't a defect, as there was a "plug" there, but just didn't know the purpose. maybe a few years from now if the whole bike starts to shimmy, i can pour lead shot in it. ( :

I'm not sure what its intended purpose is, but it comes in REAL handy when trying to snake 10 ga wire through the frame to the battery.
