Ok, despite what many of us think about the, uh, reporting on MCN, if what they're reporting about the soon-to-be-released Honda VFR1200 proves true, this will be one seriously cool motor... Honda VFR1200 is a Triple Too!

Sorry, but I'm going to drool just a tiny bit now... :dribble:

Good old MCN at it again.

"Yamaha would have built a real V4 if they thought they had the experience to do it. " Really???? <cough> VMAX <cough>

If they have cylinder deactivation it will only be to increase fuel economy. I wouldn't pay anything extra for that added complexity as the fuel cost (to me) on a bike is nominal, since I ride it mostly for recreation.

I love the Vee 4 but that is fkin ugly the bike has no front to rear balance visually , its all very front heavy . PUKE

I will stick with my 'soulless i4 thanks"

Before the FJR , I was considering a VFR .. Red with hard bags,,, nice looking ,,

But didn't care for the new V-tech valve system ...

Now they are doing a variable cylinder system ..... No thanks...

Now the V-boost that was on the V-Max that was a different story ...

That was a great V-4 .... Just upgrade the tires ,, the suspension ,,, and put a gas tank

that you could get to, and that would hold some gas ,,, and I would still have one...

( oh and better brakes too)

sounds like a LOT of complexity. if the objective is fuel economy IMHO it's a wrong headed application of a lot of complicated technology.

One other note: V4's have a history of dumping a lot of heat in the riders lap. hopefully they'll do a better job managing that issue than we've seen from various OEM's in the last 10 years.

This months Cycle World has some spy shots of it. They mention that the V4 may be rated as high as 200hp or whatnot. Frankly, I would like to see this bike replace the ST1300, have 145+hp to the rear tire, keep the weight around 600lbs, have cruise, heated grips and heated seat to compete with the BMW GT, etc. Would be an interesting bike in my humble opinion.

I admit to being really fond of Honda's '80s ~ '90s V-4s -- altho not fond of Magnas style & ergos-wise, I really enjoyed operating the engines. Smooth, torquey, with a nice hi-rpm 'kick'.

It's been a puzzle why Honda hasn't capitalized more on their V-3 (2-stroke), V-4, and V-5 motorcycle racing experience? (the ST 11/13 is more a 'car-like' execution)

But then Honda has been on, kind of, an engineering sabbatical of late -- or, so it seems (except for a few weird concepts)?

Honda's history is filled with well engineered motorcycles that advanced the state-of-the-art -- maybe the VFR 1200 will be another one?

Anybody else notice the jy-normous frame under the seat.

They say to handle HP. But, I didn't notice any steel I beams under the busa and zx14.

Is that a blacksmith's anvil?.

Also, I guess it is the norm now to hang a stupidily large and funky shaped can of new bikes.

Why not just upsize the big CBR can?.... That's a good looking can with about the same placement......

Aftermarket won't be able to move fast enough to replace the thing....

Aside from those styling criticisms, I am very interested!

The FJR will easly be clicking past 50K this year. Something different will eventually make it into the garage.

If the VFR doesn't have those Honda clown car gimmics, it will be a finalist.
