Well, with the hot weather, I got out of work and found my sidestand sinking into the pavement!

Before I buy a sidestand "puck", would the center stand remediate this or will it still sink and fall over?

Thanks for your experience and suggestions...

Robert

One would think the centerstand spreads the load over two points rather than one, but remember, the rear wheel now carries zero weight, so the centerstand carries a much higher total than the sidestand. If the sidestand sinks, the centerstand will, too, and it's narrower than the sidestand so the bike will fall sooner.

Get a puck for the sidestand. Smash an aluminum drink can. Instant puck. Lose your puck? Find a trash can and go dumpster diving for a "new" can.

Look around fer a beer can. Lay it on it's side and stomp it flat. Then fold it over and stomp it agin. Place under yer sidestand.

An electrical box cover works fine, too, and even has a hole to tie a string to. Under a $1...

Applying the parking puck is something I never understood ... you put it on the ground, and then grunt your bike onto it? The video barb linked showed the guy leaning down and stuffing the puck under the side stand. If I tried this on any of my bikes except my old Honda CB400T or my FZ6 I would tip the bike over.

How do the rest of you maneuver the bike onto the puck, or leave the bike long enough to find and smash a can? If you're really in danger of the bike sinking, do you have time to find something?

Rip the door off that covers the gas cap from one of the car accross from you. They work well and you don't have to rummage through any trash cans.............

I dismount, toss the puck on the ground, pick the bike up enough to create a space between the puck and the SS, then tuck the puck under it with the toe of my boot, then let the bike rest back down on it. Use it fine with both the FJR and my FZ6.

I have one of those official Yamaha blue thingys given to me by D & H. I attached to it one of those springy things that holds your card at the casino. I keep it in my glove box.... I just drop it down next to me, adjust it, then put the kick stand on it without ever getting off the bike. Then I attach the clip end to my clutch lever.

Then when I'm ready to go, I just sit on the bike, detach the clip, and put the blue thingy back in the glove box.

I have yet to have to hold the bike w/ 1 hand and try and place something w/ the other.

This has been my method also. Not that hard to figure out.

I was just fixing to say that. The puck is much lighter and easier to move around than the bike. Perhaps the question was someone being just a bit silly. One can hope. . . .

Those are great ideas!!! I just took a bud can out of the recycle bin and crushed it so the top and bottom both face the sam direction...I will try putting that side down on pavement and the put side stand on the flat side...if it works, then great!!! I pretty much have an endless supply of these, so as they get worn out, just reach into recycle bin for new one....

Thanks every one for your help and money saving suggestions.

I don't get it. I am in NY/New Jersey area for the past few days and its cool in here.

In South Texas where I live, 95+ days is just about it. I park my bike is asphalt parking lot and never thought about this pucking thing.
