Hello Friends:

We'll - you've seen enough of my ride reports to know a little about what it's like down here in Cajun Country (coastal Louisiana). I was thinking about hosting a get together. A few of my thoughts:

1. We'd have to do this in the late Fall (Late October - early December). By then it should cool down enough for my northern brethern to enjoy themselves.

2. I'd like it to be a "Friday through Sunday" thing, but with enough enterest/notice, I could arrange to take off work either before and/or after to accomodate those that would like to extend it.

3. I can arrange for camping if we'd like to do it that way. Or I can also arrange for inexpensive lodging if others would prefer less primative accomodations.

4. I can arrange all kinds of bike tours. We could stay together, or run our seperate ways and re-convene in the evening. There's a gammet of sights to see, but a few thoughts for your consideration are:

- Swamp tour

- Antebellem/Plantation Home tour

- Cajun dancing, cajun music tour

- Coastal Marsh siteseeing tour

- we could time it with a local festival and ride around that.

- Mississippi River delta tour

Or I could just set up a "_____" mile trip for each day and we could "wing it"

5. This is not meant to be a New Orleans thing (I'm about 120 miles West of there). BION, New Orleans is NOT Cajun Country, despite what you may have heard. Not knocking it, but the cultures are definitely different. Now, we could ride over there and visit for a while if that's what the group wants.

6. (most importantly) Of course, this ain't gonna be a "rally" or anything. Just come on down and let me share our culture with you.

I know my friends Redfish Hunter, Southercruizer, and Patriot will help me welcome you to our great State. I'll also get plenty of help from my other riding buddies not on the FJR Forum.

So, what are your thoughts? If you are interested, please comment on:

- best date(s)

- camping or hotel?

- ride ideas and interest

Give it some thought. I offer only 2 guarantees:

1. We will eat like royalty.

2. We will find some adventure

"Or Your Money Back"

Stay thirsty, my friends...

I would have an interest in this trip. I think camping would be wonderful, and I would like to catch some Redfish.

I forgot to mention, October or early November would work better than December. It can get real cold, have snow and Ice on the roads here long before December.

Thinking October for us up North. Like mid October after Hooterville

Cajuns can cook. I can eat.

This sounds like fun. I vote whenever the weather turns so that the bugs are less. One thing about the wet south, we got some bugs!

Count me in. Would love to experience anything "cajon"..........................that doesnt involve me blindfolded and buns up kneeling (thought I'd stop the forum beating before it started).

I'm in. Late Fall is proly good for me.

I seem to miss all the regional gatherings. I plan to ride to Americade first week of June, so, I will once again miss SFO at the HUB.

Interesting idea. If you're thinking about an October event, you may want to add the Angola prison rodeo to the list of possible events. I haven't been in 10 years, but it was definitely a memorable experience that everyone should do at least once.

Howdy,

In terms of festivals and similar activities in the late fall 2013, October is the best month. Here is a list of some previous festivals that I have been to here in S LA:

Natchez fall Pilgrimage (10/4-14)

German fest, Rayne (10/6-7)

Festivals Acadiens et Creoles, Lafayette (10/12-14)

Louisiana Cotton Festival, Ville Platte (10/11-14)

Louisiana Cattle Festival, Madisonville (10/11 – 14)

Blackpot Festival and cookoff, Lafayette (10/25- 16)

Southern Screen Film Festival, Lafayette (11/17-20)

Barataria Buccaneers Wetlands Experience, Marrero (11/19-20)

Festival of the Bonfires, Lutcher (12/9-11)

The dates are approximate since they are either from last year or the year before. I would like to be in on a potential email list.

Of course we don't mind. You won't be a noob when you get home.

I haven't lost this thread. It looks like we have enough interest to do this, thank you for your replies. Now my next problem is finding a weekend that works for me. My Fall is already pretty booked up. I hope I haven't run my beak for nothing. I hope to get my act together in the next few weeks.

Thanks! Shopping for camping gear now (the stuff Lauren and I use is too heavy for the bike), between that and bike gear it's a full time job

So...reading the RH/hppants demo thread reminded me...what the heck ever happened to this? How bout a spring meet maybe?

Redfish Hunter and hppants, if this occurs in Spring of 2015 I am so IN! Unfortunately, I have to ride in Italy this Fall!

But Springtime of 2015 Papa Chuy will be there, love your scenic Louisiana Ride Reports and I want to ride there also.

Honestly, I kind of forgot about this thread. I'll talk with the gang and see I we can put something together for next Spring. The time to do it I think would be Mardi Gras - for 3 reasons:

1. There's an excellent chance the weather will be conducive to riding

2. Over the Mardi Gras weekend, many of the back roads are completely free of traffic because the locals are all in the towns celebrating.

3. We can plan to ride to some parade events and give ya'll a taste of it.

Maybe Mardi Gras 2015....

Beemerdon - you HAVE to ride in Italy? You poor soul.
