My AE is the best scooter I have ever owned. Of course I like to wear dresses while I ride to go get my manicure and pedicure. It makes me feel like such a..........

Fixed it for you. You're welcome. :D

If it's not in the crate, get the dealership to change all the fluids for you.

I picked up a rebuild bike a while back...Suzuki TLR. It had been wrecked, and some parts had been scavenged over the two years it sat, INCLUDING THE CLUTCH COVER!

I drained the nasty chocolaty oil from the bike, put on a new cover, and then put in fresh oil. Then I drained that oil and refilled with new oil. Ran the bike for five to ten minutes, then drained and refilled. Ran the bike for 100 miles and then another drain and refill. Then regular changes after that. Might have been overkill but with a bike sitting open like that I wanted to get all the contaminants out of it.

I had no problems with it however, in full disclosure, the next owner did trash the transmission. I'm not sure that was the bike's fault though because on his test ride he popped and rode a standup wheelie down the street and I know he was hitting the drag strip on it after he got it. TLR's don't like long standup wheelies as they get oil starved easily, so I stand by my fluid change method.

So yea, go for crated, but if not, have the dealership change all the fluids for you otherwise.

Gas, I understand. But, I didn't know that oil would go bad.

Speaking of which, what kind of oil you gonna run in that thing?
I used to run the fake dino remains but I found I can get a whole barrel of this stuff for the same price ...

I just dump in the whole barrel since more is better. I then add the crystals to keep the oil soft which reduces wear.

Actually I hear motorcycle engines like minerals like zink. I usually crush a few of my multi-vitamins with a rolling pin and add it to my oil after changing it. :p

Viagra... longer firmer rides. And don't forget to contact your physician (aka: Yamaha Professional) if your ride lasts more than 24hrs.

Anywhooo.. did you buy the darn thing yet? seasons half over!

I'm in the middle of a 2 year hiatus. Finishing up school and starting a new career this fall.

I'm just getting it now because I want a new AE before they are gone and it also takes me forever to get it all accessorized. 2013 is going to be my year :yahoo:

Do you think a lot of AE owners drop theirs because of the auto-cluth?

I do own an 09 AE. I did have the stutter problem for some miles when it was new. During that period I never dropped it and the stutter did make it difficult to do low speed turns but good rear brake use mitigates the issues. The stutter problem is completely gone now (idle adjust, clutch engagement adjustment, and some natural wear in I believe). So if you do get stutter, have faith it will get worked out and it is worth it.

I have only dropped it once, and it was due to stopping at a stop sign, with some gravel on the road, that was sloped not only upward to the stop but also sloped to the right that I did not notice. Foot slipped on gravel and I wasn't prepared for the two slopes and the bike went over. Would have done the same stupid thing with any bike except something witth a weight less than me.

I bought a used 2007 AE serval months ago with 5900 miles. I was won over after 5 minutes. It takes a little getting used to, but it has been an amazing ride. Making u turns is no more difficult than with a standard clutch. I can't begin to tell much fun this bike is to ride. If I'm lucky enough to buy another bike it will be an AE.
