As I gain experience as a rider, I acquire bike accessories and riding gear that, once acquired, I realize I could never do without it for as long as I remain a rider. If I could only pick 2 or 3 items under each category, here's what I'd highlight as my must-haves. What would yours be?

Riding Gear:

  • Sun strip for my faceshield.
  • Widder heated vest (and gloves).
  • Probably soon to make my list--my recently acquired camelback (no surprise, right, Silent?).
Bike Accessories:
  • Dashboard shelf.
  • Trunk (givi) for throwing all my sh*t in, including computer bag and stuffing my Aerostitch (prefer the trunk over the bags, which don't "hold" stuff, at least not till you close the darn side before everything falls out).
  • Throttle lock.
  • Loud f**king horns.

Riding Gear:

Heated gear

Custom-molded earplug speakers

Textile riding gear (Stitch) - big change from the leathers I used to wear, always needing to carry raingear

Bike Accessories: ok, I had to have four, not two or three

Aux lights

XM Radio (who's got time for MP3's or commercials?)

Custom seat (Russell for the FJR, Rich's for the Harley)

Throttle-lock or cruise-control

That is a pretty cool setup but I gotta ask if you live in MadMax's world where there is no gas, water, food or anything like that? :)

Oh yes it is a cool setup. But all credit goes to the namesake of the "Nash Dash" - that's Ignacio's rig.

Ari -I recognize a DC commuter scooter when I see one! Atta way! ;)

JB, my commuting wouldn't be complete without:

BIKE:

Air horns. Can't imagine commuting without 'em.

CeeBailey windshield +4+4

Throttle lock (a $3 Home Depot version of a Throttle Meister)

Bungie net for whatever the wife wants while on the way home.

Rather than the top case, I have a briefcase that I can pop on and off with a single pin. Riding recently with side bags has reminded me why I like just using the briefcase.

ME:

Black tape on helmet visor as a sun-shade.

Stickers on each side of helmet stating "HANG UP AND DRIVE" to point at with middle finger. Usually follows liberal use of air horns.

'Stitch (Papa Smurf blue)

Extra gloves for rain

Gerbing jacket and glove liners when <40F.

1) Good riding gear, helmet, and ear plugs

2) radar detector

3) Auxiliary lights

4) GPS

Once I got these things and got used to having them I won't give any of them up.

If you ride with a passenger a good communications system is a must have, at least once you've had one.

FZ-1 mirrors

Dual Star heated grips

Rick Mayer Saddles

5 cents worth of electrical tape on helmet (sun visor)

My buddy on the back

PPE:

Lee Parks gloves

Alpinestar leather jacket

Scorpion helmet

Bike:

8500 Passport

N/Line shelf

Garauld luggage rack

Cool shotgun rack

Bill

Starcom communication system.

Satallite radio.

And now I find out that I need a shotgun rack. Do you get those through Bike Effects, or Sportsman's Guide...?

1. Diet Vanilla Coke

2. Nose

3. Spewing Spit Take

4. Ouch!

Tuesday is a lot funnier now! Good one Ari. :clapping:

Aftermarket seat (Usually Sargent), mp3 player are a must for me as are the standard (VFR,ST1300, FJR) hardbags.

I like my GPS and Gerbings too.

Steve

Tail case.

I got the Yamaha one, many like the Givi. No matter, the thing is just too freaking handy now to do without. Trips to the store...it holds my helmet and gloves while I shop, and holds the crap I buy when I leave. The only time I use the sidecases if I have too much stuff for the top case - whether shopping or on a trip. And as the Yamabox only holds one helmet, the sidecase for my passengers helmet when needed.

Don't always need my GPS, and can live without my XM for short rides. Even as nice as the bluetooth headset is for the GPS and phone.. I don't always turn it on.

Stuff like helmets and protective gear are really just kinda no brainers, I'd not ride without them and no one else should either, but damn, that ugly box on the back of the bike rocks....
