Put on new Avons.

While doing so, I discovered a damaged bearing seal.

Ordered a new set of seals and got them in.

I thought I would just pop out the old ones with screw drivers and tap in new ones.

Noooot!!

Those *******s are not budging at all. I did everything short of destroying them.

Do I need a special bearing puller or something?

I don't even see how a tool could get behind them.

I use a long carbon steel drift with a flat, round surface. Although I have not removed the rears, which look kinda tough. Only the fronts.

The trick is to get the right drift tool, spray some light oil around the mating surface, then just work 12,6,3,9 o'clock patterns with moderate force. Keep watching the front side to correct.

A great tip to use in conjunction with above: Hold an ice cube to the bearing for several minutes to "shrink" the bearing. It works! Then put new bearing in the freezer overnight. They will go back in with minimal effort using a large socket. You could even heat the mating surface a little before new bearing insertion, but I have not needed to resort to that. Try the cube trick! B)

Damn, I need to learn to read. You said bearing seals! Opps.

Well, you pretty much can't get them out with damaging them. And you may damage the bearing if you aren't careful. I pry them out by placing a large flat screwdriver blade underneath, then twist the screwdriver to pry it up. Butt...always have done the bearings, too, so I cared not about them. The prying action may damage the bearings. May want to try to use a small pry tool and try to only touch the metal bearing surface, not the plastic.

Good luck, that may be tough to do w/o bearing damage.

With the reputation for poor quality that the bearings have, I'd do a full overhaul of the hub. Bearings and seals. Then you don't have to worry, just drift the whole mess out.
