First off to my knowledge everyone on the bus was O.K., The driver of the car... who gives a ****. Short of having a medical condition while you are driving there is no excuse.

I get a call from one of my neighbors saying our kids have been in a wreck on the bus (my 5 and 7 YO). My neighbor called, not the school  . I'll be talking to the principal on that Monday. He heard from another friend of ours who's older son on a diff bus watched it. Some DA submarined the rear of the bus while it was stopped in traffic. Both of my kids describe being thrown into the seat in front of them. They said they were close to the front.

I would guess from a rear ending like this to jar the kids into a face plant into the seat infront of them, the DA was at a high rate of speed. At this time, I have no clue as to the identity, *** or gender of the driver or the type of auto involved.

Be safe, someone is out to get you.

I have always been stupified by people who:

Run into big yellow school buses

or

Tour buses

or even semi's

Let alone get hit by a frickin train... I mean ****, it's a moving building for krisake, that makes noise and has the point at which it crosses the road clearly marked.

Nope, don't get it.

Fencer,

To state the obvious take your kids to a doctor even if they seem fine. Injuries can be hidden and may not appear for sometime. It will also make any legal issues easier to deal with later. It sucks I know, my son was in a vehicle with me that was in a head on due to the other driver, but a necessary step. Hope your kids are fine.

Kevin, glad your kids are O.k.. Hope it doesn't affect their getting on the bus on Monday.

A good friend of mine and I worked for a plumbing supply outfit years back and he had just picked up a load of cast iron boilers and copper pipe on a Ford F-350. He went to stop and the weight of the load combined with ****** brakes put him into the *** end of a full size school bus carrying handicapped children. Luckily nobody was hurt. He told me the faces of the kids pressed up against the glass as he was about to impact haunted him for years after. Of course that was back in the days that not a single lawsuit was generated. It will be interesting to see how many come out of this one.

Fencer,

I agree with V65 - take them to a Dr. for an exam. Muy Importante !!

Give them a hug or two or a gazillion over the next few days, as well. If they don't need it, you do!

I am pretty sure both my kids are OK. I am more concerned over a (spider?) bite on my 7 yo knee than the wreck. I am sure someone will sue, it just won't be me, unless some PTSD manifests itself around big yellow things.

Thanks for the well wishes.

Why wasn't there an emergency response to begin with?

In Chicago, we send an engine, ambulance, field officer and the po-po,of course, to every bus accident. If there are no injuriesat the scene we allow the bus driver to sign off for all the children as the responsible party, any injuries get transported...........PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!! There was a time when all the kids, injured or not would be transported, thank god that crap is over, imagine 27 children coming to an ER for non-existent injuries  . But they happen about once every 8 shifts for me, minor bus accidents, that is.

We even had a bus struck by some ******* that drove over a few lawns to get around the bus, unforunately, for him, the bus had a cop onboard w/ camera and radio. As we dove away we hit the horn and laughed at hm as he was being loaded into the squad car that happened to be at the end of the street eating their breakfast. They were not happy w/ him to say the least  .

Uh..I resemble that remark. :)

I was on a secondary road approaching a train track Xing that I drive over every day on my way to work. No blinking lights, good to go, so I procede. When from the left, out of the bushes that come right up to the edge of the pavement, pops out one of those cast iron railroad constuction cars that they use to fix the tracks. I am going 35, he is going 3. I can't stop and $4000 later my car gets fixed but not until I have to threaten their scumbag insurance agent AIG with law suites etc. Didn't even make a mark in the rust on the train thing.

I don't suppose you'll ever get to hear the driver's explanation of how he/she came to hit a big yellow school bus. Riding a motorcycle is pretty scary when there are drivers who will drive into a bus. Didn't see it? Didn't give a darn? Important phone call?

May I second the opinion on getting the kids a full and thorough check up? I firmly believe that the cause of my current neck problem is a rear ender, several years ago. While I was wearing the c-collar, I was approached by several people who had had similar surgeries, during an extended period after a rear end collision.

Give the kids an extra hug tonight. They'll probably squiggle and squirm, but you need it.

My kids tell me there were a lot of flashy blue and red lights (fire & po po) and I think the fire paramedics gave everyone the once over.

I just spoke to another neighbor. the school didn't call them either  If the kids hadn't said anything, It never happened right? :glare:

I just sort of skim the forum looking for TUP, so I missed this.

I'm obviously sorry to hear about what happened to your kids and the lack of any professional response from the school. I get your anger over this.

Too, I appreciate the warning about "how do you not see a big honkin' yellow bus?". Most cagers completely suck and must have counterfeit licenses. No state could possibly certify some most all of these imbeciles.

My daughter hit a school bus broadside. The school bus driver did not see her coming and pulled out in front of her from a stop sign. My daughter had slowed down when she saw the bus at the intersection on her left. Daughter did not have a stop sign on this rural road and there were no trees or buildings near by. The bus driver claims she stopped and opened her door to look right and did not see the truck approaching at 50 mph so closed her door and pulled out into the path of the daughters truck. Daughter got the truck slowed to about 25mph before impacting the bus. Lucky nobody was hurt except my totaled 1990 Chevy silverado club cab. Did I mention the truck is bright red, not a cloud in the sky at 3pm, and daughter was westbound, bus was northbound. That driver is out of a job, and the local school district now uses a different company for school buses. All emergency services did respond to the scene and I got to deal with it from out of state since I was on a vacation trip.

Glad to hear your kids were OK.

Mike

It's an on-going joke in the pediatric ICU, when calling staff members at home. The conversation begins something like Hi. How are you? Can you come in to work right now? There's been a school bus crash'. Should anyone ever call in before their shift, to see what kind of assignment they're going to get, they will be told that there's been a school bus crash, and instead of 1-2 patients, everyone is taking four. Warped minds find this kind of humor amusing.

Glad the kids are OK, 3 months ago 3:00 in the afternoon, bright sunny day driving around the bypass in Indy, In. 3 lanes wide, up ahead two lanes merging onto the bypass. There right merge lane fall off but the left lane continues on, lite traffic, big trucks must stay in first two lanes. This lady comes up the merge lane and runs right into the side of my truck, no one hurt, ruined the front wheel hubcap and lug covers on my truck, ripped a hole in the side of her car from just behind her door to the tail lite. I pull over and ask if she's alright, she is, I ask what she was doing, her reply I did'nt see you. I was driving my PURPLE PETERBILT all chromed out with a 53' aluminum stepdeck 76" long overall. JUST how the hell do you not see a rig of this size. Some things in life you jut have to attribute to the fact that there are ********* out there!!!! OK I feel better now.

Crap Kevin... glad your kids are okay. I always felt helpless when my kids went anywhere in a vehicle with anyone other than me or my wife.
