How fast will any bike go?

A buddy tonight told me that no stock production bike will go over 185. He said the factories all agreed to keep a sanity limit at that speed. I find it hard to believe, especially with cars pushing 200 (Z06-198mph).

Proof one way or the other, anyone?

The way I remember it, the european guvments wanted a 300kph limit and got it a few years ago. This was agreed to by the moto manufacturers in a moment of weakness (and perhaps sanity) and still stands today....300kph is 186mph....

Thus, if memory serves, the yur-a-peons ruined it for (or saved) everybody who has a need for BIG speed.

I would never notice the difference, here in CT the roads have little room for those wacky numbers FJR be fast nough.

Oh yeah, the BUSA was almost a 200mph bike the first year or two, after that it was a 300kph bike.

First year Huge-a-Busas were before the self-imposed 300kph (187 mph) limit. Subsequent years got neutered. New ZX-14R said

I thought the ZX-14 was electronically limited to 186mph??? That's fine by me if every bike from here on out is limited there, if the limit is a self-imposed type deal and not governmentally mandated. If the top speed stays the same, and the HP numbers for bikes keep climbing, that translates to more torque available at all speeds, which I really like the thought of.

The May issue of Motorcyclist has an article on the ZX-14 and says that they are electronically limiting the litre class GT bikes (indlucing the ZX-14) to 186 mph through a "gentlemens" agreement within the industry so that the government does not step in and shut them down. They do however, get to that 186 faster every year.

yup, +1, that's my understanding too! but I keep wondering, still looks like they are bending the "unwritten rule" to me. I think big brother is gonna step in w/in the next year or so, just conjecture on my part, then the value of these "muscle bikes" will start up after big brother takes away the muscle--sound like we been down that path in the past?

Correct in European 300kph = approx 186Mph.

Reason? Europe said they MIGHT restrict imports of vehicles that travel above 300clicks, or tax them.

Europe buys many many more motorcycles than the US, so Japan mitigated risk in sales with the restriction.
