Been riding my 2008 since, well...2008. Came across a 2013 for sale and noted that it has several desirable features. I have a couple of questions though. Is the electronic throttle control reliable and effective? Is there any delay after you twist the grip before the engine room responds?

Is there anything else I should be wary of or concerned about?

Thanks!

Peace

I put 88K on my '08, and traded on a new '13, which now has about 64.5K on it...I'd do it again in a heart beat. The throttle by wire is great, no problems, and with 2 D modes, you should be able to find your happy place. Also, the '13 has other small improvements that make it a more refined machine. If the price is right, go for it.

Must be since they used it also in the 2014......2015.....the 2016 also.............and.....the 2017. I'm pretty sure if it wasn't effective they'd have gone back by now. ;)

Throttle response in 'S' mode on my '14 is faster than my '06 or '10, but smooth, with none of the nasty snatchiness of the '06 or the moderate snatchiness of the '10. A significant improvement, and I have absolutely no complaints about it (which, for me, is a very rare thing).

In 'T' mode, it's more like a little old lady driving, fine if you're admiring the views, but for me, dangerous amongst traffic and less fun on interesting roads. I only use it on very slippery roads, and I'm not really sure why, since we also have traction control.

No less smooth or reliable than a full cable throttle. Much of the modern throttle is cable actuated anyway. It doesn't actually go cable-less from the grip housing.

I have 36K on my 2013.5 now. I don't have the actual code in front of me, but me thinks there was some tinkering with the maps between 2013 and the 2014 and newer bikes. I have a 14 ECU in my 13...the Sport mode map seems a bit smoother vs the 13 ECU.

Why do you have a '14 ECU?

New ECU changed it from the '13 cruise control limit to the ~20 mph higher '14 cruise control limit.

His story starts at the last post on pg 12.
