How many are not happy with their Corbin seat

Abt 7500 miles on my Sargent. I'm very happy w/ it.

Probably not the first choice among LD riders, but for my typical style of riding (200 mile days &, on occasion, an LD ride), it's works OK.

Sounds like the bottom line on this post is that the large majority like their corbins quite a bit. Corbin has had some issues in the past with quality and customer service, but they seem to have gotten past that. I've had corbins over the past 10 years and was only mildly unhappy with one of them. The one i purchased for my 2006 FJR was made incorrectly and was not the best workmanship. I had to send it back. They took care of the problems and i'm very happy with the unit they returned.

FWIW, I bought a corbin canyon close for my 05. Received it june 13. Love the seat, wife does not. During the time between ordering and receiving they had a significant price increase. Ordered at lower price and when came in was invoiced at $500. We called every two weeks and talked to about everyone at corbin and just last week got my credit. At $370 was a good value, at $500 too close to a russel or sergeant or rich's. Finally had to resort to asking address to return seat. Not happy with follow up service. jr.

I've read many different motorcycle forums the past couple of years, and one thing is more certain than any other issue that comes up. About half the riders love Corbins, and the other half hate them.

It doesn't even seem worth asking for opinions on it any more because there is nothing even remotely like a concensus on Corbins. You just have to take a chance, and figure someone will buy it if it's not for you.
If it isn't worth it then why reply?

I think it is worth it and appreciate everyones opinion.

Thanks alll and Sargent will not have a seat for an '06 untile spring '07. Oh well.
I think you took my wording wrong. I was not meaning to be ugly, just making a point. I realize that is one of the problems with the written word - my emotions are not clear. My fault. I was not trying to diminish the value of these discussions.

no probs :D

OK speak up how many and what do you not like about it.I had a bad experience with them (Corbin) and really don't want to use them but I also don't want to send my seat to CA and lose my bike for 2-4 weeks.

Sargent?

I have an '06.

I will make this offer only to people who want to buy a Bill Mayer seat from Rocky. I will send my extra seat, rider and passenger, to Rocky to have it redone for you. You send me your stock seat(s) when Rocky tells you the new seat is ready. You need to send the seat(s) to me so I recieve them BEFORE Rocky ships the new seat to you. When I receive the stock seats, I will call Rocky and tell him it is OK to ship your new seats to you. You pay me for the shipping charges to Bill Mayer before I send them, and you pay for the shipping of your seats back to me.

If you are interested, PM me here.

I have had 2 Corbins on previous BMWs. I live near them, and did the drive in service. Ultimately, the quality was good, but I didn't like the hardness. They are very heavy as well. Also quite slippery, tho that is a material issue. I am going to drive the 240 miles and have Russell construct a saddle for my new, very fun, FJR 1300.

I have Corbin saddles on some of my bikes, but I purchased a Sergeant for my '05 FJR.

It is very similar in appearance to the Corbin seat. I purchased the optional electric seat heating element (I know, WHAT was I thinking?), and the passenger slip-in backrest (makes my wife feel much more secure riding with me). If I had to do it again, I would have ordered the stickier seat material.

The Sergeant seat is great, even though initially firm, and fairly pricey, with all the options included.

Definitely worth it, but not a Custom seat like a Meyer, or Russell.

 I ordered a Corbin seat and smuggler for the '06 FJR, got the smuggler and am very happy with its construction, fit, finish, operation and appearance.

The seat arrived and was not what I ordered as far as stitching, appearance, narrowed, nor did it meet my standards on being professionally done with no divats, puckers, loose leather, etc., etc., and sent it back to them after talking to the salesperson who took my order.

They have it now and am in the process of correcting the problems and shipping it back to me.

I hope to have the seat back in a couple of days and would like to give Corbin the benefit of doubt and hope the "new seat" when it arrives will meet my expectations for improved comfort over longer rides, lowering my reach to the ground and looks just like the fourth photo from the top and on the right they provided on their website.

Ok, I have a Corbin close seat.. it seems to fit ok, have'nt used it yet cause it won't fit on my 05 with the Givi luggage rack without chopping about a half inch off the back of the seat... also had one on a VStar 1100...hated it...almost as hard as the stock Yammi seat....

I cut down my stock seat, seems like the Corbin is very much the same dimensions, but I screwed up when I cut off the thick foam and only left the thin under foam on...OUCH!

I also have a Sargent seat, but since I am vertically challenged, it's simply too high for me, doesnt' seem to have much give... seems comfortable enuf, but after all the lowering I did on my bike, it's kinda useless to me..it's for sale as soon as I get around to posting it in the right folder.<G>

I wish Mustang made seats for out bikes... I love the one I have on my Harley.... I can sit all day on it and not even wiggle....oh well...

good luck.... seems that with all the seats and handlebars availabel for various bikes, tis wouldn't be hard to find something perfect, but...... too bad there's not some kind of handlebar and seat exchange! <G>

Mary,

ANY seat works well on a harley, because you get a constant massage from the vibration of 1970's motor technology :D Don't get me wrong I really like Harleys, but from a technology standpoint they are decades behind everyone, even the 2007. I really want a 2007 Night Rod Special "Black is the new Chrome" :)

I've had a Sargent on my '05 FJR for 4-6 months and it was a 25% improvement over stock. I'm having a Russell made for me right now and the Sargent will have to go to pay for the price of the stock seats and to make a Russel, otherwize I would keep the Sargent.

I have a russel daylong that I bought used. The previous owner had a smaller waist/rump than I do, so it fits kinda weird, but I still like it alot.

It is wider than the stock seat, so I get less foot on the ground than I do with the stock seat (I have a 31" inseam, so it's not that big of a deal )

My wife loves it compared to the stocker, xcept it is sliperier. whenever I stop, she slides forward into me, and when I gas it, she slides back....

Let her drive, then do a series of quick starts-stops-starts-stops, etc. Put a smile on BOTH your faces. :)

:yahoo: An update on the posting I did a couple of days ago on the Corbin seat I ordered for my '06 FJR.

It arrived today and brings me down closer to the ground where I am more on the balls of my feet as opposed to my tippy toes (YEAH, you don't know how lucky you folks are that can flat foot your two wheelers).

It's exactly as I ordered and specified that the stitching pattern be the same as the fourth photograph on the right of the website photos for their Corbin seats for the '06 FJR.

The folks at Corbin addressed the problems with the first seat and seemed to have fixed everything to my satisfaction. Kudos to Theron Blair in sales who helped facilitate everything, return authorization, arranging to have FED-EX come to my home and pick-up up first seat, and overseeing everything was done correctly.

It's pretty comfortable right out of the box and fits the backside as if it was formed for me.

I know I will have to break it in as the instructions state it will take about 2,000 miles for the break-in, but it feels good to me and am hoping to make 600-1000 mile days now without having to stand up and air out certain regions.

I know many of you will say it should of been done correctly the first time and you will get no arguement from me, but, I'm trying to be positive and give these folks the benefit of doubt and appreciate the way the problems were rectified in a positive and speedy manner.

Scott

I had the exact same experience. First seat showed up wrong with poor workmanship. Customer service set everything up for the return and the redone unit was done well. Seems like corbin is able to get this done well, just takes them one time too many. I've seen this with them in the past. Very comfy seat (especially after break in) and one of the few easy (but expensive) farkles to get the vertically challenged one leg up on the competition.

:) LOVE MY CORBIN BRINGS ME CLOSER TO MOTHER EARTH

THE STOCK SEAT IS FINE IF YOU WANT TO RIDE 35-50 MILES. IF YOU RIDE EVERY DAY AND DO L/D RIDING.THE CORBIN WORKS GREAT FOR ME THE WIFE LOVES THE BACKREST, YEAH IT IS A LOT OF MONEY, BUT MY BUTT FEELS MUCH BETTER (MONKEY BUTT NOT SO BAD)

I like the 06 corbin seat. However when I bought the seat I only bought the front. i got around to buying the rear because it will allow you to move back more than the factory rear will. Asked them to match the seat i bought at the motogp. it arrived and did not match. no reply from them on a request to match seats.

The Yamaha corbin on my 05 is marginal. Actually preferred the stock seat.

Sargent seats seem to be a higher quality seat from what i saw at the EOM.
