Hi All,

I recently noticed while riding my 07 that sometimes when I sit in stop and go traffic the temp bar will creep up to the second to last bar. Is this normal or do I need to take it to the dealer?

It's 1298 cc, powered by burning petrol. With little air flow except for the fan, it'll get hot. My '05 runs at 4 bars in traffic and mostly, the fan will bring it down to 3. Until it starts blowing steam like a Model T, I ain't gonna fret.

 My '06 has never gotten that hot, I think the most it's got in stop and go traffic in 112 degree temps was

three bars below max.

My '07 has been to that level several times. Perfectly normal in hot weather and stop and go traffic. However, if its doing this a speed then you've got a problem.

Is your fan coming on? Does a bar or two go away? If yes, you're okay, if the fans don't have any impact, you may want to investigate more.

Thanks all,

The fan does come on and the temps drop while riding. I just thought it was weird as the temps here have only been in the low 70s.

Just wanted to point out that four bars to Gen II owners means something very different than it is does for Gen I owners, the gauges have different scales.

Which is exactly why I mentioned the year and the number of bars. A little searching on the OP's part would have revealed some additional comparisons. Besides, it's Friday - don't get me going. ;)

Hey, I was pretty proud of that post. I'm having a good day at work and managed to turn my initial smart-ass reply into something polite and informative.

if i sit in traffic long enough, whenever ambient is over 70, I can hit the second to last bar and the fan comes on. But if I'm moving at all, it drops real quick. When temps hit mid 90's it does the same thing so once the fan comes on it cools down quite a bit. Never comes up above that and doesn't come up very fast when it does.

what's kinda weird is hitting 3/4 of the bars even when it's 50 out. Then you *wish* the fan would come on and share the warmth:) I think they made the temp gauge a little to..dramatic..maybe? Normal operating temp or anywhere the motor is completely happy should be the middle of the gauge, minimum operating temp should be at the first bar, not two or three bars, and if you're right before the last bar, that should be a sign of trouble, not "business as usual" and time for the bike to think about using the fan.

Tho maybe it's for legal reasons, that way, when it actually overheats, the gauge would have been "pegged" loooong before.
