I am sure that in the future Yamaha will make big changes and technology will come with it. You can't hold it back much as we may all want to. As bikes advance with all the latest and greatest we are gonna lose what we the owner can do to them. Not sure that the dealerships will know or be able to either. I myself am all for the ease and reliability of proven modifications. But in the end iits all about what the customer wants. If Yamaha starts to lose out on sales to Kawasaki or Honda or any one of the other manufacturers they will have no choice but to go the same way. Lets face it it is all market driven and money still remains the main driving force. I have no problem having to farkel my ride - thats what makes it MINE. Like I said some of this technology integration is fine but other parts of it sucks. I for one hate to lose the ability to work on my ride but those days are fast approaching like it or not.

They both have pro's and con's what it comes down to is what works best for you.

I love my 04' FJR, and I have farkled the beast to just what I want/need. As far a maintenance goes this is a breeze. Seasonal throttle body sync's, oil changes, filter changes...what else do you have to do? The bike is so low maintenance compared to my earlier rides, it's nothing at all. Valve adjustments are done by a private mechanic who has the shims if they need to be changed, and does a great job. But comparing the new Connie to the FJR, I rode one two years ago. Loved how smooth it was and how smoothly it shifted, but trade for the FJR not a chance.

If I were in the market now though, it would most definitely be the '10 C14, hands down. No particular brand loyalty here, but it is all about timing. Give Yamaha a year or two and they will do what they have to, to make it to the top of the Sport Touring class again.

Which is exactly why so many guys I know just keep their old Harleys'.. Not new, not fast, but not complicated, either.

Well as of right now , he`s going to hold off on the Connie . All i did was send him the links on the C14 & he did alot of reading & is shocked on the service (how little mi`s in between) So he`s going to wait too see what problems (if any) is going to come up on the bike. He said he`ll just ride his K1100LT for now (or until i let him ride my 07 this summer when i go on a visit) & i`m sure he`ll be hooked on the FJR. As for HD`s , the older the better (kind of miss my old FLH-P shovel)

I rode the C-14 and the one thing that I had a problem with was the side bags blocked the mirrors rear view directly behind me, I had to move my head to the side to see directly behind the bike. another thing I did not like was the big *** pipe.

I rode both the '09 FJR and an '09 Concours 14 ABS before buying the FJR. I liked the fit and finish of the Yamaha better then the Kawasaki and 1400 was not that much more powerful than the 1300. My previous bike was a '99 Concours 10 which I had since new with no issues. Did not like the single large muffler either. Let you buddy make up his mind as other people have said, IMO half the fun of buying something new is the search for what you like the best.

(Let him ride yours for day )

Thats what i`m planning to do , but hope when we switch bikes , i don`t want to go out & buy a used BMW K1100LT

I have a 05 and really thinking about selling it for the new Kawasaki . From everything i have read it looks like a winner to me .

If i were you i`d wait just one more year & see what Yamaha comes out with & also see what problems (if any) Kawasaki has with all the new thechno installed on the C14.
