I have a 55 mile one way commute into work each day. Almost all turnpike or highway miles. For the last year the bike as been stored. (It's explained in another thread). Now that I have the time to ride again, I'd like to start taking the bike to work to avoid the huge gas bills the SUV racks up. The GF, however, is doubtful. She thinks that based on the roads I drive that it would be too dangerous. Help me help her see the light!

For those familiar with the area around Philly.....It's Turnpike to Blue Route, to I95 south. Reverse for the commute home.

- Do what you want. Wear appropriate gear and ride sensibly.

Dude, they either understand or they don't. If not, and your actions are bound to what SHE wants you to do, then either get out or live with it.

My wife doesn't like my commuting on 2 wheels (what's with all the commuting threads today?), but it'll happen regardless of what she says. I wish she was the pillion type, but, oh well...

I went with brick-the all around, complete solution to GF issues. Wife has legit input due to investment. GF is like a rental car.

If you love to ride you might want to rethink any commitments you have made to this relationship. I am willing to bet it won't be long before she asks you not to ride at all.

You say she's a GF and not a wife, then I'd say the GF has got to go. Plenty of others out there.

SPORT took the words right out of my mouth. If your answering to your GF heaven help you if you ever get married. :dribble: Explain to her that she's dam lucky to have a BF cool enought to ride an FJR :clapping:

Or dDrop your pants and show her the suture scars from where you had your ****** sewn shut.....no matter how fresh they are.

Approx 1.5 deaths per 100 million miles for cagers, .26 per 100 million miles for scoots. Me likes dem odds!
Dude. Where you getting the .26? I thought it was like 2.6 in 2000. Missed decimal point? If so.....2.6 means we're burning the candle at about 1.7 ends compared to the cages.

Like, dude, like the MC report was based on 10 million miles, not 100 million, so yeah, like I so did move the decimal point, like you know? ;)

"Convince the GF"? That's akin to an oxymoron. If she has made up her mind, there will be no convincin'. Buy her stuff and she'll allow it, but there will be no convincin'. And under all circumstances, if she's made up her mind, she will reserve the right to speak it on the issue whenever she sees fit, . . . er . . . sees a point to be made at your expense.

Sheesh!!!

Fo Shizzle on the brick...

If you enjoy riding, and buy into the commute savings after you factor in tires and all the other necessary ********, then go fer it.

As for the roads? Dunno, maybe there's a more scenic route ?

Those DUDES are messing with me! They can't make up their mind on zeros. I wish they'd put an extra zero on my herb IRA.....dude. ;)

I gotta be honest that it really surprises me that bikes would somehow be safer than cages. There isn't some other consolidated NHTSA report that directly compares bikes and cages you're holding out is there.

I've looked (and have been looking), but I can't find one. You'd think they'd loop it altogether - including pedestrians. :dntknw:

Found their annual assessment preview, but it doesn't detail miles of bikes or registrations....just that fatalities on bikes went up 5.1% from last year to 4,810. I would guess motorcycle use has gone up that much in a year.

Your observation and wife emmulate mine verbatum!

The GF gets the "I do what I want or I stop paying the rent around this MF and you can GTF OUT!!"

Tell her what you are going to do and you are happy she is down wit that

I don't think I could go back to commuting in the cage, and my wife knows and respects that.

For commuting, though I haven't added them myself yet, many here recommend loud-*** horns, modulating headlights and tail lights.
