...and kudos for paying attention to the primary task at hand, that is to

RIDE THE BIKE

RIDE THE BIKE

RIDE THE BIKE!

Good job, Cdog!

Nice job Cdog staying up and staying alive and your passaenger.

Not trying to hi-jack thread... I was riding yesterdy and at the is meeting place we usually meet at Moskowhit corners by Lake berryessa I had just left and turned on the road to head home, I passed this SUV and there were two pit bulls one on the road and the other was commng out of the dich from the side of the road in the opposite lane ,the one I was in. I braked hard swerved and the the dog from the ditch got half way accross and turned back and started to walk right here I was heading to miss it . Thank goodness it went finally went straight and I cranked it up to get away. I can just see me on the ground from the dog wrecking me. and the other feasting on me for hurting his buddy.

Wife and I are taking a little ride to day... Staying in the lowlands for warmth and tooling about... So we hit the deserts west of Salt lake City,,, We are about 1.5 hours into the run and come upon a small town (lemme stress small) in the middle of the desert where the road makes a bend to the left. There are 3-4 houses on either side of the road (smaaaaalll town) and a couple kids and a dog on the right side'
Speed limit entering this town drops to 50 and I am doing right about that... perhaps even a tad under as I saw no reason to be a prick and blow through this sleepy little place... Just as I come almost even to the people on the right the dog decides to cross in front of me. Dog was about 18" at the shoulder and perhaps 30+ lbs.. It sees me and begins to stop as it is in my lane so I start a drift to the inside of it and get on the binders, I hear my wife gasp behind me over my music... the dog changes its mind and decides to "hurry' across the road and my drift is committed, I am running out of room super fast.. I tighten up my turn,, and the dog speeds up.. I am still on the binders but not too hard as I am in a bit of a turn... I realize the dog and I are going to meet and I begin to reverse my drift.. but run out of time and room..

So, I know I am going to hit this dog, I have only scrubbed off about 10mph so I hit the dog at about 40 and at the last second before impact I unloaded the front end by releasing the brakes.. I impact the very back of the dog and it twirls off to my left and I dont go over the top of it, luckily..

I got the bike stopped and go back to talk to the kids that saw me hit the dog... it is hurt. but not fatally... It is walking but something is wrong with its hind quarters... i apologize profusely and they say "It is not your fault, you almost missed him. we are just glad you did not crash" and then I thought... Hey!! I did not crash, cool!! I go back and look at the bike after talking to the people for a couple minutes (evidently this very dog has been hit once before at this very spot) Looking the bike over... it is fine, no evidence of impact... so i continue to ride off to breakfast with my wife

Now,,, It was here that I learned a long time ago to unload the bike at impact.... and that is why I did it... I dont know if that made the difference.. but it was indeed the right thing to do as it allowed me 100% of my bike ability available for whatever I may have needed to do next.... which in this case, turned out to be nothing luckily

" I apologize profusely " I think the wrong person was apologizing profusely. If my dog nearly made a biker wreck I'd like to think i would be the first one to apologize.

Is that indicating "Dog Food" or Dogs as food??? You are a sick puppy... no pun intended LMAO
=======

I know.................. I'm damaged........... :dribble: :dribble:

Ya know? After reading all this, I will say that the inside of a dog is a lot like the inside of a book. They are both dark until you open one of them up.

Glad no-one or no K-9 was seriously injured in the reported mishap!

Let's stay sharp out there!

I'm a bit surprised at how understanding the riders here seem to be about the hazard of dogs running loose. If I almost wrecked cuz some boneheads dog was running loose I'd let the owner know he was acting irresponsibly.

I have dogs and they run loose but they are trained to stay away from the road (I live on a rural highway) and if I ever saw them chasing traffic they be tied up or restrained with an "invisible" fence. there are enough hazards without having added ones due to the irresponnsible behavior of pet owners.

I was OK and there were 2-3 kids with the dog that saw this happen.. They dont really care whos fault it was, all they know is I hit their dog.

I agree, it was not my fault but I would imagine the kids were already upset seeing fido take a hit.

FJRM

I asked my dog and he said he prefers Fajitas, and he like Honey Mustard Sauce.. and he told me to tell you thanks.. He likes it when PPL cook for him

OLD... Here is Utah.. It is the kid that run loose.. In restaurants, malls, you name it..!!

Glad you kept yourselves upright and unhurt!

When I took my bike course, the instructor told us point blank...

"It you see an animal on the road shorter than this *and he gestured about the height of the doggie you hit*...do not swerve, brake or attempt tp otherwise avoid"

I think that's mean...cutting the head off a dog and pasting it to your sidebag. :assassin:

;)

My brother-in-law, a bodyman for 25 years, always said he fixed way more cars that had "missed" a critter than those that had hit one. In other words, people are more likely to wreck due to radical avoidance maneuvers. Nope, hit the brakes, hang on and, if need be, hit the critter rather than hit the ditch, overcorrect and...you know the outcome to that scenario.

Good job, Cdog!

Yep,, and if it is bigger than that go to WOT just before impact.. That is part of the reason I made no real radical adjustments.. I did try to avoid.. But I was not willing to drop the bike over it.. Actually.. It was mostly instinct and muscle memory as stated above..

Really, There was not a ton of thinking.. There was not a ton of time.. All I could really do was my best and "Ride the Bike" So, This time it turned out good

"Wheaton"

I must agree..... Poor doggie LMAO

Ditto what Clark said. Sounds like you did everything right, unlike this dingdong who tried to miss a bunny a coupla nights ago.
That was a lucky bunny.

This is an unlucky bunny (no word on whether the rider kept the ears for good luck):

When I see almost ANY animal near the road I brake hard enough to go by it very slowly ... esp dogs and deer. Both of them are totally unpredictable.

Good job to keep things upright - esp riding 2 up. It's a bit unnerving to hit the brakes hard with a passenger behind you.
