how to open glovebox with no power

Can anyone advise me on how to open the glove box when there is no power to the solenoid? Other than just forcing it?

Dead battery? Just use a set of jumpers to your car and turn the key to the on position.

I don't have my bike with at the moment so I can't look, but perhaps you can remove the plastic adjacent to the left fork tube and get access to the solenoid bracket screws and remove the solenoid. Then stick a sccredriver or similalr tool up in there to push on the latch. Alternatley, you can attach an alternate 12V source to the solenoid. Depending on how much it is preloaded, It is possible that even less voltage would move it.

Been thinking about this since earlier. I think if you remove the left side lower, and associated inner black plastic that comes off with it you'll be able to get to it.

From there Use the TSB for the 17MPG dash recall for the 06 that's on my website for a step by step at pulling the nose off.

You pretty much have to pull the lowers anyway to get the nose off so might as well go that route. At the very least you'll be able to get to the connector and put +12v to it.

Don't think you can remove the plastic without the glove-box lid open. The back piece has to come off first, and there's a screw covered by the lid, on the right in this picture.

Push hard on the button and it will open. Do it all the time with no adverse affects to the locking mechanism.

If you can get underneath and to the point where the lock is there is a small plastic piece that needs to be pulled down. Not that you can see color of parts that deep into the cowling but the piece I am talking about is a white piece of plastic. Perhaps a wire hook made from a bent hanger would get the job done. It is directly above the metallic solenoid and you can only access it from the rear of the bike. Ohh, you still have to press the button down while the white plastic bit it pulled down to open the box. The white plastic bit doesn't take much force to pull down.

I have replaced my glove box as it was broken when I got my bike so I have an idea of how it looks. I actually have the old one which currently works but I used a piece of plastic and glue to fix it. I don't have a good way to post pictures but if you want I can email them if you are still interested.

Pretty much everyone I know gets away with an unpowered opening of the glove box at least once. After that, they learn to use magnets and Velcro to keep it closed.

It might be better to do the battery first. Are you riding with the Bombers this weekend?
