I purchased this bike used from a forum member in November. He said he had 1,000 miles on these tires, which also included a track day. I have put on 3,000 miles for a total of 4,000 miles on these tires. The front tire is a regular Diablo (not strada) and the back is a Diablo Strada E.

To me it looks like it has a few thousand left but without wear indicators it is hard to tell. I was going to get PR2's but everyone is out of stock.

Here is the front Diablo:

At first I was just going to get another rear Strada but the front is not a Strada but a softer tire so I don't know if it would make it another 4,000 miles or more.

I have a few trips planned next month, one for 1,000 miles and another for 2,000+miles.

So what do you think, do I need some new rubber right away?

Only had one set of Strada's, front and rear. Looking at the rear tire, I wouldn't attempt another 1k mile ride on it. They go away quick when > 80% worn. IMHO of course, YMMV. My Mileage didn't make it 200 miles down the road.. :glare:

Just a guess from my chair -

you have no more than 1,000 miles left on the center of the rear tire and 4,000 miles left on the sides of the rear tire... :p

I can get 1 front to 2 rears most of the time. Yoiu look like you could do close to the same, but YMMV of course...

We don't have too many curves here in Texas, or at least a lot of straight to get there. Hey its 500 miles to Arkansas (SFO) and then I will only be on the sides of my tires.

Did you get that with a Diablo front or Strata front?

Those "E"'s have wear indicators on them, if you look carefully. When you hit them, it's time to change it or limit your forays to local until you finish the tire. That one looks to be in pretty good shape from what I can tell.

On the rear tire there are six wear bars just 11/16" from the centerline (three on each side of the C/L). They are spaced symmetrically in three clusters around the tire.

Those six bars are a good indicator of how much tread is remaining in the centerline portion of the tire.

I have over 8K miles on my rear Strada and there's tread left for many more miles.

Screw it, I just ordered some Dunlop Roadsmart tires from SWmototire. $250 delivered for the set. Lets hope they turn out ok, first reviews seem to be good. I wanted the PR2's but they are not in stock.

I needed something for the upcoming trips and don't want to be worring if my tire will make it back.

I just ordered another Strata E yesterday for $123! There is a place I go to locally (JCMotors) that will match the best online price I could fine and take off another $5. I am at 3k on my current tire and the damn thing looks brand new. I have some long rides coming up and I wanted to have a back up tire ready to go when I need it. I expect to get somewhere between 8-10k on these rear tires.

Didn't mean to mislead, I have not tried Pirellis yet. I was commenting on my experience with the FZ1 and the FJR. I put 16,000 on the FJR last summer and put 4 rear and 2 fronts. Pilot Roads , Dunlop D220, OEM Z6, mixed and matched, I got 4,000 +/- on each back and 8,000 +/- on each front. This was 2-up riding 99.9% of the time, 40 PSI. I admit most of the wear was in the middle, I do tour more than I sport on the FJR.

The FZ-1 is about the same, 2 to 1 rear to front, 4,000 - 8,000 miles. One exception is I did put a set of Conti Sport Attacks on the FZ1 one weekend in N GA and wore out the back tire after 765 miles. There was no flat spot in the middle. Gotta stay away from those soft tires.

I have read a bunch of posts and if the new Pilot Road 2's are not available I might try Strada's next.

I would appreciate the secret of 16,000 miles on one set of tires, if anyone is offering.

The Strada E is made specifically for the FJR and touring. The good news is they also handle pretty damn good in the turns too.

If you're not cash strapped, get some skins for any lengthy trips. Keep the old ones for riding around town and commuting. I hate being on the road and getting ***** for new tires by 'local' dealers who know you have no choice..

+1 on toecutters comments.

I run those tires and the wear bars tell the story. The problem is they are hard to locate. Try hard to find them and use them.

Another concern that has been mentioned in the forum is that these tires can develop a severe flat spot in the middle. If the spot is not too pronounced, then it's fine. If it is uneven or lumpy, then you've got some problems and it's time to replace them.

Wow, pretty big difference. I had never seen a new one.

First picture is not my bike, pic stolen off another thread.

Got my front roadsmart yesterday but SW Moto Tire messed up and sent me a second front, not roadsmart. My rear roadsmart should be here tomorrow.
