While doing some shopping earlier today. I checked out some calendars. I thought to myself, "Self, an FJR-related calendar sure would be cool." I reckon there're some folks here who could handle the logistics. We could all submit images (to the "Calendar Guru" in the proper format for large prints) of beautiful scenery with our favorite bikes thrown in, static or in motion. Then, the 12 best shots would go to print and a PDP of sorts could guarantee a minimum number of calendars would be sold before funds went out for the publication. Hopefully, the images would be held from internet posting beforehand, so as not to ruin the novelty and anticipation of the actual calendar. So, y'all think it's worth the trouble? And, if so, who could help get 'er done?

I could assemble such a calander graphically, and get it off to a printer, but I don't have $$$ to front for a bunch of calenders.

I'll check about print-to-order jobs like the EOM tshirt, but it would probably take a couple weeks at min to get pictures together etc.

For a typical size calander, the photos would need to 5mp or better to look any good probably. We've had some 8x10's printed from a 6.1 mp image that looked pretty good.

I'd suggest 13 photos, so we have a good cover too. Images should be tif, pngs, or jpegs that have been compressed as little as possible.

How about the following image. Anyone who boought photos from killboy at EOM definatly has some large format images! Of course we'd have to see about buying commercial rights to the photos from killboy.

Good luck wit dat! We oughtta have enough among us for a calender. I don't think it has to be professional grade, just good enough. (FNG, you out der, boy?)

By the way, tuck in your shirt and consult a fashion specialist - fast! Tacky, tacky, tacky! ;)

See 'class' below...

You know us youths, always dressing in baggy jeans and a tshirt with no regard for proper form.

Besides, I was more concerned with riding style!

Get those toes up TWN, lest you lose some rubber from your toes mid-turn!

Then how about the following:

I'm shifting, I'm shifting! ;)

You piccies are showing null... sorry.

Edit: *poof* they're up!

Two thumbs up for that second one! BRP?

I was making lower res ones, since you could only see about 1/4 of the high res at web browsing resolution.

Excellent Idea Toecutter ! I " almost " suggested the same thing last month when they had a similar idea on Pashnit's forum! I wasn't sure they'd be enough interest, but I'm glad you posted up !!

Take a look at the ideas on the Pashnit forum I'm sure we could follow their lead. The Res on the pics doesn't need to be that high, cause were not selling it at the mall, just to FJR fanatics! :)

I know I have some great pics to submit!! Slppy .. your pic sucks !! :p :p

No offense, I don't use much paper anything anymore. And I get unsolicited printed calendars out the wazoo. Calendar overload.

I'd rather just have one online. Here on the forum if possible. I certainly love looking at your piccies, just have no interest at all in seeing them in hard copy. But set one up here on the forum, and I'd love to check it out. Not trying to rain on your parade at all. If you want to put one together, go for it. But I'd just assume stick to the electronic version.

Highlander just put up a thread about the year's best pics. If your looking for a pic source, perhaps that would be another place to check.

Good luck! ( and I mean that sincerely!)

It's something they've been doing over on the Blackbird forum for two or three years. (https://www.cbr1100xxforums.org/forum/index.php) This was the first year I got one, and they're GREAT!!!! I won't miss out again, and I could use a second one with FJRs. Most of the pics are of one or more Blackbirds with spectacular scenery or in action on a nice twisty road -- all are well enough composed and shot to compete with professionally taken photographs. Here's how they run it:

Members take pics during the year and submit them to the guy in charge of calendars, who thins the field to some number well in excess of 12. Around October, those are posted on the site in a thread for voting by the membership, with the top 12 (plus one for the cover) being selected. Then the winners are announced and everyone is asked to post their orders and send their PayPal order before printing. They are mailed out shortly after that (got mine maybe 10 to 14 days ago). The price for one, including shipping, was $6.00 this year, a little less per calendar if you ordered multiple calendars.

The guy who handles all this put in some work in a field he is obviously familiar with, but the result was far better than I'd have imagined.

We need "action" photos with scenery. Perhaps FJR dudes and dudettes can bring their best action photos to WFO. We could vote on the best ones to make our 2007 calendars? We could even take some cool action photos at WFO (eg. a row of bikes leaning in a corner through one of the mountain passes). The more I think about it, this could be a fun activity for WFO - a competition for best action photos. B)

MM2 - Whadya think?

The Sport-Touring.net forum does a calendar, uses Cafe Press to publish them-- $16.95 seems spendy, but proceeds go to the board, something SlapNPop might consider.

ST.net calendar

Just glancing at their pix and the ones FJR members here have posted so far on the 'pic of the year!!' thread, I'd say we'd have no problem 'building' an excellent FJR-themed calendar.
