As we get closer to the rally I would be interested in hearing about status reports on travelling across the area from the EOM rally to Texas.
My Dad and I are going to attend the rally. Following the rally we are planning a rather large 3 week trip by bike. Starting with the first leg to visit my Sister in Brownsville Texas Area. The original plan had us following the gulf coast down. Obviously that plan is gone now. We are now planning on just getting on the interstate and buzzing across till we are clear from the area. The last thing we want to do is do the "tourist" thing in an area that is desperately trying to deal with the aftermath of this storm. The people down there have been through so much the least we can do is not get in the way.
But as this situation develops I am concerned the bubble from all the refugees from the storm is pushing further and further out. Tonight they were talking about Houston straining from the extra 10-20,000 people. I've even heard about them sending people as far as San-Antonio. (Obviously living up here in Canada all my information is via CNN, so its probably alot of rumour and heresey).
Nonetheless, I am interested in hearing from people living along the I-10 and I-20 corridor. Are they passible? Can we reliably get gas. I am _guessing_ I-10 from Mobil to Lafayette will be emergency vehicles only for the next while, or am I reading too much into the situation? We thought a comprimise would be to take I-10 across (I-12 in NewOrleans area) to Beaumont then head south to the coast and take the ferry across to Galveston. Would this be feasible? At the moment I am leaning towards hooking up with I-20 and heading across to texas before starting to angle southward.
Anybody have any comments?
