there are pics of my wiring (mess) of the rear hyperlites

I connected in to the wires right at the bulbs...my Gen I the purple wire is the brake wire going to the rear before splitting off

but I just posi-tapped into the two wires to the brake light bulb and then put a multimeter and checked which one has positive voltage all the time and which one only when the brakes were applied...when working along, a rubber band on the front brake lever works well to apply brakes

Here's my write up (with photos).

Use your multimeter to dope out which wire is hot when the ignition is on, which is hot when you hit the brakes, and which is ground. Easy peasey.

Don't have a multimeter? This is the job to rationalize buying one (every job is a good excuse for another tool). One you have one you'll wonder how you lived without it. A great one for packing on the bike is this little credit card sized job.

I couldn't find it in current inventory on line but a google search of "pocket digital multimeter" got several options in the under $40 range.

and others similar to the one above.

Yes, check out fjr-tips and get the multimeter. Both things are darn handy.

In the meantime, the short answer: On most models I've looked at, the hot wire for brake light is the yellow one. I saw one report that it was yellow/green on your 07.

I'm interested in installing Hyper Lights, but only the break light.

Can someone tell me which wire is the break light wire? And I'm planning to use this item:

Ya know I'm in the process of doing the same thing with a Sound Off Ghost. I'd like to use the Posi-tap's, but they're not available locally. I've tried every parts store in 30 miles. Even the stores that have them listed are out of stock in the warehouse. I don't mind to shop online, but hate to pay as much for freight as the cost of the item.

Two things: buy Posi-taps and Posi-Locks online. You have to buy a box full, but they're great to have. Various sizes available.

Second, Hyper-Lites come with VERY easy to follow instructions. Hell, even I figured them out. Doubt you'll have a problem, since I know you can read. 'Cuz if you can't, who typed your question for ya?
