Too bad about your trouble Steve. I haven't visited 405 since the lanes went HOT and I plan to put it off as long as possible.

With the rumblings and backlash that's beginning to form, let's hope someone, somewhere grows a pair and sticks a fork in these HOT lanes. I'm not holding out much hope though.

There is more than a fork than I'd like to stick in WSDOT insane toll scheme.
You aren't alone Fontanaman. I thank my lucky stars that I don't have to commute through that mess.

I work downtown by the stadiums and 405 is my route home to Bothell most days when on the FJR. I don't really care what they do as long as they keep it free for bikes per the federal mandate. When I cage to work I avoid 405 at all costs. AFAIC, the State has their hand too deep in my pocket already. It wouldn't be so bad if they would at least scratch my nuts while they're doing it, but they ain't. There just isn't a happy ending in sight and I'm willing to go a fair distance to not give the bastards a penny more than I have to. Including making them cough up free transponders and not letting them have any of my money in a GtG account.

Please don't veer off into #2. If you must do politics, please keep it about FJRs...or the very least motorcycles. And keep it on-topic about I-405 and Good2Go pass.

Thanks.

I have several of the free motorcycle stickers that I never had to register a credit card too, but I also have the occasional need for the car on I-405 and received this e-mail that helped clarify (or at least reinforce) several points for me:

Can I use the direct access ramps?
Yes, they’re not just for HOVs anymore! Any I-405 express toll lane driver can use the direct access ramps at NE 6th Street in Bellevue or NE 128th Street in Kirkland to enter or exit the express toll lanes. You can plan your trip in the express toll lanes using our interactive map.

How many occupants do I need in my car to travel toll free on weekends?
The carpool requirement is 2+ all weekend, meaning you only need two people in your car and a Good To Go! Flex Pass set to HOV mode to travel toll free.

What toll rate will I pay?
There’s been some confusion over how to read the toll rate signs. Here are some facts that should help.

  • You only pay the rate that is listed for your destination. Do not add up the amounts to get your toll rate.

  • Example: If you’re headed northbound and only see rates listed for NE 124th Street and SR 522, but you exit at NE 160th Street, you would pay the rate listed for SR 522, because you went past NE 124th Street.
  • You pay the rate that is shown at the time you enter the lanes. You lock in your rate when you enter the lanes, even if the rate goes up or down after you’ve entered the lanes.
Why am I seeing higher toll rates?
Tolls reached the $10 maximum rate on Thursday, Dec. 10, during heavy congestion as more drivers chose to use the express toll lanes for a more reliable trip. Tolls reached $10 again on Wednesday, Dec. 15 for two minutes when the express toll lane reopened after a collision was cleared and drivers quickly reentered the lane to avoid congestion in the regular lanes. Read our blog for answers to frequently asked questions.

How are express toll lanes performing since they opened?
Since opening the I-405 express toll lanes, drivers choosing to use the express toll lanes have seen an immediate benefit with a more reliable trip. We’ve also heard concerns from drivers and we take these seriously. WSDOT is making changes to striping at certain locations to improve access and reduce confusion.

Overall, travel times in the regular lanes in both directions have improved or remained the same for drivers going the full 17 miles between Bellevue and Lynnwood compared to this time last year. We have also seen a shift in congestion points which have led to increased traffic in some areas. It’s important to remember that it will take six to twelve months for drivers to adjust and for traffic to settle into a new normal.
