My mother's side of the family is pure British. My grandfather was a veteran of the Boer War in South Africa in the British Army and on returning to Britain was given the option of moving to Canada or Australia. He chose Canada.Yeah we know 'Mericans' can't spell right, but tyre and boot is a British thing..... And Bill has enough problems with spelling, as did many Polish folks whose names end in 'ski'..... had to shorten them because they forgot how to spell toboggan.
When we would go over on Christmas Day our grandmother would have us to listen to the Queen's address on the radio before we were allowed to open our presents.
