I hope your not going to give the dealers in vegas your bike service busniess and do the work yourself.

ENJOY the RIDE

Congratulations! I haven't posted here in a while but I just dropped in. You will LOVE your FJR, just as it is--then you are going to start spending money on it!

The odd smells are usually factory stuff burning off and burning in. As the exhaust changes color the hot metal gives off a smell. Not to worry.

My first addition was a Givi top trunk, rather than the Yamaha one. Some easy additions (if you want) are a turn signal canceller (SignalMinder) and a daytime headlight pulser (PathBlaser) both by Kissan, and a ThrottleMaster or other throttle lock.

Then the sky's the limit.

the bike got up to 5 bars on the Temp scale and after about 20-30 miles or so dropped down to 4 bars. is this normal....

Keone,

Doesn't seem right to me, unless you were riding in 2nd gear all the time...

Just to give you an example, I rode for 2 hours yesterday and the temp gauge never exceeded 2 bars while in motion.

Then again it's wintertime here and temps are barely above freezing.

If it takes you 20-30 miles to drop from 5 bars to 4 while rolling (I just checked your Wx in Nevada and it's not that hot...) there's definitely something that needs looking at. Your FJR also comes equipped with a more efficient rad than our older ones.

Dumb question: have you checked your coolant level?

Here is a link to our Bin-o-facts for an 06/07:

https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php?showtopic=8660

Unfortunately the chart relating bars to operating temperature has not been updated for 06/07's. The 03-05's used a 6-bar display, the 06-07's use a 10-bar display.

There is a wealth of other info there

Ummm... that would explain a lot, I guess
We can scratch this statement:

there's definitely something that needs looking at.
Just relax and enjoy your new Feejer!

5 bars on a new 06/07 is fine. It will run 1 bar cooler after the initial break-in.

How many bars did you ride to with the cruiser? :D

Regarding the new smell................. I seem to recall back in 02 that subject coming up. It was the consensus at the time that the bike had a film of cosmoline on the engine and exhaust. As the burns off it emits that characteristic smell. It will go away in time.,
