Good luck Andy, BTDT three...yep, three times!

Although it seems hard now, take some (a little) time and figure out what you really want to do. Freshen up the resume and get it out to companies / positions you're after. Don't stay off the grid too long as your network will get cold quickly.

Keep after the job search and you'll end up better off than you were...trust me on this!

I actually spoke with a company I had been dealing with for years - once I'm ready, I'll reach out to them. They way they put it, "If you're serious about working for us, I'm sure we can find a place for you." They know me. VERY well. So, there are options.
I told you those folks at the animal husbandry clinic were top notch.
If ya need any pointers gimme a call.

Andy, you went about this situation the right way and I'm in full agreement to take some time off. Any time I was laid off in my past working life, I always ended up in a better place. You will too. Altitude is everything. And we're still going to kick your butt at Tech Day anyway.

Definitely. Take some time off and enjoy yourself. Just be careful. Sometimes that week turns into two, then turns into a year or two or three or more! :)

Not sure what your background is, but if you're an Oracle DBA type and you like the Bowling Green, KY area, PM me.

...instead of the '67 Camaro SS, you go around on your '04 Feejer in full ATGATT...
Just so old school, Feasting On Asphalt. And it didn't end well.
Yeah. but this would be in 1080P (or maybe even 4K!), not no stink'n black-n-white Andy Griffith stuff.

Personality rules on a show like this, Andy with his blood rushed face on camera sipping a fine brew with some awesome cuisine being served by a beautiful buxom long haired waitress? I'm thinking that we may have sumtin!

Sorry to hear about the job situation. As many have already posted sometimes that can be the little push we all occasionally need to do something better. My personal experience earlier this year proved that to be the case. Intermittant layoffs at my past job led to a call from my new (present) employer and I'm now much happier and far more secure. Money situation could be better but I didn't have to take any steps backwards. Bright side is no more night work or beating up my body with heavy lifting. Keep searching but at the same time enjoy the chance to knock a few lines off your bucket list. Keep us all posted and good luck.

Andy,

Take your unemployment for as long as it lasts. Start an LLC. It dosen't matter what line of work. This is what I did 30 years ago and it worked out fine, better then I ever thought it would. I associate with a number of very wealthy individuals who have done the same. There are millionaires out there in; lawn mowing, window washing, rubbish hauling, tree trimming, etc.. Most of these guys are not geniuses. As a matter of fact a very good friend of mine started his business because he could not find anybody to hire him. He now owns one of the largest scrap metal businesses in the greater Cleveland area.

Good Luck at whatever you try.

Signed,

Another Capitalist Swine

I had been planning on taking a nice, looooong ride for the month of October. Due to recently developed considerations at home (not related to being laid off, either) I have cancelled that looooong ride. Oh, well.

Anyone up for a day ride around SE Ohio while the weather is still cooperating? After Tech Day this weekend, my calendar is kinda clear...

So you're telling me I responded to your PM for nothing?? Filled my fridge with beer for nothing?? Hid all my wrenches and secured my bookcases for NOTHING??

That's it...I'm calling you at 0300.

Take some time getting back to being a slave again. Go for some rides and enjoy life. Sooner than you think something will come along and don't take the first jail sentence that comes up. Be choosy where you will be enslaved in your next job. If you are good at what you do you won't have any problems becoming a captive. Welcome to the new corporatism.

Best of luck, Dave

I agree with others here who say appreciate and enjoy your time-off. I laid myself off (self-employed) and spent a good bit of last summer riding, and then going to Hawaii to visit my just-born grandaughter. While in Hawaii I got the offer for my current job. Don't let unemployment cause you guilt that makes you forget to enjoy this transition to a better time. You closed a door, but didn't burn the bridge. The next opportunity is just out of sight. Enjoy the trip while it lasts.

Mi Hermano Andy, if you can play the piano I can get you a job as the Piano Player at Adelita's Whorehouse in Coahuila, Mexico.
Know Madam Leticia very well, you would be playing piano in the bar downstairs. The working girls are upstairs, a great job ese!

BikerGeek, you snooze and you lose. You did not get back to me on the job offer, so HotRodZilla took the job at Adelita's. AJ is getting good tips for his piano playing, plus he gets a discount upstairs where the girls work! jes' sayin' and nuff said!

I'm sure this is a bar-stool relationship only!
Ha!! You obviously don't know Don...That guy is so "in" he got me the piano job, and I can't even play the piano. I just sit around and pound on the keys. However, the discount is really nice!!!

Thanks Don...Now off to the doctor to see about this burning sensation!!

Andy, bout all I can add at this time. You better be really nice to your wife. jk, good luck in whatever you choose.

Uh, where exactly is this burning sensation located? You know what, forget I asked that question. I really don't want to know any more.
