Well, I just completed my first IB ride. It was great! Four of us were in the group. I rode the FJR, Jim was on his Vulcan 1600, Kevin was on his Silverado 1700 and Mark was on his 1982 Yamaha 400. He had that thing WFO for most of the trip. We left Wichita, KS at 5:50AM in a dense, wet fog on June 2nd headed north on I135 to Salina where grabbed I 70 west to US 24 into Colorado Springs. Had some lunch at Glads BBQ on Jet Wing Dr., adjusted the 400's chain which was slapping the center stand and swing arm by then, put on our rain gear and headed back. The rain was light and we actually drove through some marble-sized hail on the ground, but missed the pleasure of being pelted by it. After 25 years of faithful service the 400's tail light bulb gave up the ghost. Kansas' finest took notice of this about 15 minutes after the sunset as we exited I-70 in Hays, KS. We found a bulb and did the swap out.
I took the lead from Hays to Salina. The full moon had not risen yet and it was dark. I started to yawn and my eyes watered a little and I was still 200 miles from home. Luckily I had loaded the SD card in the Zumo with my favorite tunes so I cranked it up. That did the trick. I had a cup of coffee in Salina and took a little bit of an extended break before doing the last 1:15 leg to Wichita. We rolled into the QuickTrip for our 11th receipt at 1:05 AM. One of our buddies met us there to be our witness and bring a celebratory cold one. That hit the spot!
We're talking about a BB1500 now. Wichita, Tulsa, Memphis, Nashville, St. Louis, Kansas City, Wichita.
