I crashed with slow wits and slow speed

Well I picked up the KLR (black 09) yesterday and put 50 miles on i -- it WAS serendipity, I had no real plans to buy one until one was siting on the showroom floor while I was waiting for the FJR to get some work done I wasn't comfortable doing. Rode the FJR to work today. My leg has a pretty big ding in it for a while but works fine and my toes are almost totally pink again (had been black). My back has been more problematic but MM2 is right... it takes longer. It won't keep me from WFO8 this year.

As to cojones, I respectfully disagree; I was stupid, ill prepared in planning, used poor judgement and let "get-there-itis" make me impulsive. And I didn't have a paper map for backup -- never again.

But I will be getting a couple more dams as I can. I've DECIDED... :D

Thanks for all the concerns, but I'll be fine and the FJR is rashed but running. I will check out a couple painters suggested locally, if I don't like their work I'll be checking into Garrauld or LDRyder's guy. that will be this winter... got farkles to buy first... lol
I've got an 06 and I love it.

Enjoy...

I have an update.

Prior to my trip to Utah last week to see and ride with Beemerdons, JiminPhoenix, Marcuaurelius. et al., I finally had some plastic and a new stator cover put on that I bought more than a year ago to repair most of the damage from the crash. I still have a scar on my shin to remind me to keep the FJR on pavement whenever possible.

After visiting FJRay and his wife Patti in La Pine last Saturday, I decided to head to Utah by way of Eastern Oregon.

I had unfinished business to complete my June 2009 ride.

This is the trail kids directed me onto to see the dam, viewed from the correct road:

This is the correct road with cows leaving pies in the road for me:

The damned dam at the end of a twisty road with poor pavement:

I no longer have the dam tour placard, but I got my photo 2 years late:

The positive: The mishap led directly to my getting a dual-sport bike. Some day I'm going to conquer that dirt path and see the dam from there too.

Ride completed.

Shiney,

OK, you were explaining this to me the other day, with the pictures it makes it clearer.

Thanks! And Congrats!

Good on Ya Shiny !!! Its never too late to do anything your heart wants to do ! Thanks for the inspiration !

Blessings,

Bobby

To let others know that asked on the road to Owyhee... it is paved all the way to the dam and then some, even up above a little, to a view point. It is a beautiful dam and has a glory hole.
I wonder if there's a second definition of "glory hole" that I'm not aware of, or is this dam really the world's most awesome destination ever? I mean, glory hole, really? You don't find those on just any old dam.

Well really, you find them on just about every dam, serving as an emergency spillway just before the dam face broaches! You Kansas guys are almost as sick as those whack jobs from Michigan

and Florida!

In dbx's defense, the dam definition is way down the list of hits when Googling 'glory hole.' Jus' sayin'
Thanks for that. :)

I learned a couple of things today:

1. That glory hole has a non-**** definition.

2. That I don't need to rush out to that dam before the do-gooders shut down the glory hole.

3. That I'm too lazy to Google things like this. Either that or I think it's funny to play dumb.

4. That I'm too lazy to continue this list. :)

Sorry to read about your mishap, but I'm glad you're ok. I had a similar experience about ten years ago. I was waiting for the rain to stop so I could get started on my annual trip to Lake George, NY for the Americade Motorcycle Ralley. My rider instincts told me to let the ground dry a little bit more, but nooooo, I had to go. Needless to say I dropped my bike less than three miles miles from my house trying to make a last minute right turn. No major damage to my CB1000, but a lot of damage to my pride and an ear-full from my wife. I never forgot that lesson and I am thankful that it wasn't worse.
