I've got a set of 4 piston calipers off a GSXR 750 and some braided lines that will improve them quite a bit.
I'll be interested in how this works out for you. Compared to the FJR, the brakes definitely feel like a couple wood blocks. If mine stays in the stable this would be an interesting upgrade. Since we're in the same general zip code...Let me know, K?

I'll post the mod and my results when I am done - going on vacation for 2 weeks on Monday so I should be done in ~3 weeks.

Man-Strom DL1000, or Girlie-Strom DL650? ;) :p
Man-Strom, I thought about the girlie for a second but I knew I couldn't take the heat from Reno John
Funny, Yep you made the right call, girlie version is for losers ....just ask DCarver.
Wow, nice price!!

With Orygun, Idaho and NorCA within striking distance, you've got some of the best v-strom perfect roads and adventures ahead of you. If I can help in any way, let me know.

Congrat's on the new manbike. RJ
OK, Reno'BigWood'John, you just try to follow me and the GirlieBike... I'll have you whimpering for mercy in the first 10 miles, guaranteed. The WeeStrom sucks at single track, the Piggie-FatBottom-Vstrom-'Manly-bike' sucks even worse. Much to big, fat, and ugly. Like you, you porker! :****:

Besides, I'd ride a gurl than a manly man, just sayin'..

Oh, just kidding pawtracks - RJ and I are best buds, even if he does have to have the Harley equivalent of the phallic symbol 1k cc Strom..

You, on the other hand, have RJ to help you out!

LOL, said in fun, enjoy the ride, the Strom's are a great compliment to a Feejer - my Feejer, CrzY8, is currently broke-****, I've been WeeStroming for the last 2 weeks and really enjoying the ride, just sayin'..

Welcome abroad pawtracks. My 02 V-Strom just turned over 30,000 miles with no problems. Enjoy your new bike.

Congrats, Pawtracks. Looks like a ton o' fun!

I been thinkin' 'bout adding one of the "gurly" Stroms to my garage - could have used one this summer. Looking forward to your posts about the brake mod.

Pawtracks, what year is it? At that price, I wondered if he were holding a gun to his/her head waiting to hear what you wanted to hear? I had an 03 DL1000 that went to Alaska and everywhere else. One of my son's got it later with about 60,000 miles on it. It was awesome. I've had two DL650s an regular 04 and 06ABS. Both great bikes and run smoother than 1000. My 1000 ran hotter in summer with going up to 5 bars at stop lights but never puked coolant-just annoying. The 650s stayed at 3 bars once warmed up all the time. Really can't go wrong with either. BTW, I found EBC HH brake pads makes a big difference too. I believe in DID X ring gold chains and dupont teflon multi use spray about every 500 mi. for lube--bestest stuff evar!!

I run the HH's on the 650 and they made a huge difference. I put SS lines on and it made no difference. After riding the FJR I ordered a set of Blair's caliper adapters (came in today) and bought a set of SV 1000 calipers off E-bay. Looking forward to getting them installed and seeing how they do.

It's a 2004.

Thanks for the tips about the chain. I'll keep an eye on the temps when it is hotter but it seems to be running pretty smooth right now.

Barely broken in...

I almost have all of the parts for the brake upgrade, Galfer lines should be here next week.

Thanks! It is a great bike, it compliments the FJR quite nicely.

Your Wee is Tim's old bike right?
You betcha!

Nice looking Strom!

Are those Continental TKC80's? How do they ride on pavement?

I plan on using the Strom for shorter rides and commuting but I really like the looks of those tires...

I ran through Las Vegas last Friday in 110 degree heat with no problems. Think it went up to 3 bars a couple of times but no higher. I was moving right long though so the engine had plenty of air going through the radiator. I sure was glad to get east of there Saturday into some cooler climes. Only times I had to stop was for gas and water though. :p
