Whilst riding the bike...before you wisecrack!

It used to be just my right but was both on the last ride out. I release my grip and the blood comes back and the feeling comes back. I know the obvious answer is to grip less, which I make a concious effort to do but cannot make the problem go away. I am 6'0'' and lets just say 'big build'.

All ideas welcome.

 
Not uncommon on a Jap I-4 due to high frequency vibes (Buzz). Some fixes (your results may vary) are grip puppys, heavy bar ends, foam grips, bar snakes,............

 
I use "GelGrips" that help absorb the harmonic vibes.

others use gel pad gloves or "Grip Puppies" (a foam over-grip). I also use a throttle lock so that I can remove my right hand fromthe bar and stretch it.

 
I have had this problem ever since I started riding. The only thing I found that worked for me was a throttle lock, so I could let me hands hang down once and awhile.

 
Grip puppies, might work over the heated grips, but before I bought my puppies, I used neoprene wrap held in place with bicycle handlebar wrap. Worked great, and I could adjust the size to my liking.

Looked like **** after a while though and ordered a few pairs of grip puppies for myself and a couple of friends. They all love 'em.

++ for the throttle lock, bar ends, and on long rides get into some exercises, shoulder rotations left and right, extending the arms and flex for a ten cycles, same with knees and ankles. Makes a big difference on a 'big day'.

 
Other threads have addressed this of which I just completed and it has helped tremendously!

First find the thread on releiving the pressure on the throttle by letting one revolution out of the middle tension spring. This makes it nice and easy to hold the throttle with just a little pressure. Secound, which I have not done yet, but have ordered is a new tripple clamp from Heli Modified. It says it will take the vibration out and make for a firmer front fork. And third is find the thread on the Yodi riding position. This I worked on all morning and I feel has really helped me to where I may send the Triple clamp back on monday when It arrives. I would add a link, but I'm not that good yet!

 
Suffered similar problem on my '93 FJ1200. Had a Vista throttle lock...but I wanted to be rid of the cramps 4ever.

My wife (bless her)...handed me some cotton 'inner' gloves on the day I left for 2000km 3 day tour through the SW of Western Australia. I looked like Michael Jackson as I put these gloves on, then placed my leather/kevlar armoured road gloves on over the top.

The result? Perfect. Hands were warm, never cramped once, the cotton liner gloves reduced the effect of the I-4 buzz. Absolutley brilliant. At one stage...forgot to put the gloves on...both hands cramped within 10km...stopped....did my Michael jackson impersonation...everything was good.

On the day my I picked up the 07 FJR...my wife presented me with new thermal liners for my gloves. I will use them before I use the grip heater facility on the 07.

So try and find some cotton gloves...worked for me.

 
Look for the link that shows how to remove the pin in the bar and push the angle out. I did it and what you are looking for is to balance the pressure on your hands. The stock position puts pressure on the outer part of your palms and it goes numb. It worked for me.

I noticed just now you have the GEN I bike and I honestly don't know if the '05 and earlier feejers have the same handlebar setup. I'll leave that to others that are more knowledgeable.

But the reference to changing the handlebar angle was just before the major heading : Chip Controlled Clutch (YCC-S)

I would fit a cruise control instead of thottle lock.Look at Yoda riding position , inner gloves are good , heavy bar ends , etc . I do some stretching excercises and get a good back and sholder massage every week for a few weeks, this realy helps .Quite often the pain you are feeling is " refered pain" it can be muscle tension between the shoulder and the middle of the back or other places . I use a heat pack before I head out ,I simply heat it in the microwave and put it around my neck and sholders for a while . I reheat it and while sitting having a cup of tea or breakfast I place it on my shoulder and back , you can also try it on your lower back, it works for me . These are just "somewere to start ideas ", But I presume you are like me getting a little bit older and old injuries to the back tend to play up. Do not foget to move around a bit, strech and move your arms , stand on the pegs every 20 minutes or so.

 
I read all above &didn't see this. Throttle spring release for sure, but what cured mine was to grip(lightly now) both grips with wrists slightly elevated. I still ride my others w/wrists slightly down but not my '04 FJR. To help keep right wrist up I have Throttle Rocker. I took back off the Tacky Touring grips & would remove the risers if I wasn't so lazy. Try it as it costs nothing to raise your wrists only 5 degrees or so. Lots of Luck...Later,,, De :rolleyes:

 
Take the advice of ShinyParstUp and read about and use the MasterYoda riding position, it has made a huge improvement in riding comfort. Takes a little getting used to, but is worth the effort. It gives a lot of relief to the shoulders and wrists. And the best part, it doesn't cost a dime. Better than any farkle!

No one has mentioned blood flow.

At least none in my scan.

Go for a ride with no jacket or gloves, to see if the problem could be garmets cutting flow.

Wrists and elbows often get pressure from gear and slow blood flow.

If numbness does not happen, look at how your gear is fittng.
