When I took my 04 in for the throttle body sensor recall last fall my bike returned home with a spare part in the tray under the seat. Since the bike was winterized the day it came home, I didn't find the part until this spring when I resurrected Aethon for this season.

Called Yamaha and they didn’t remember or have a clue as to what it is so I though I would try the brain trust at the Forum.

What is you best guess as to what the part in the photo is???? I know the object on the left is a penny….. I just put it in the photo for perspective.

It fits under the cross bar at the back of the tank. This cross bar is the one through which the back tank mounting bolt goes horizontally. After taking the tank off, there are two bolts on each side of the cross bar that screw into threaded holes in the top of the subframe just behind the tank.

Your orphan piece sits on top of the subframe, with each of the threaded holes/receptors (for the cross bar mounting bolts) fitting in the orphan piece's holes and the tabs pointing down to hold it on the subframe -- it seems only to act as an unnecessary spacer. I only had (or only have) one on one side, and the other is missing. Don't know why Yamaha put this piece there if it works just fine without it.

Frank also had but one, because it's an alignment shim.

Let me apologize before I write it. No one else jumped on this so I had to. It is a penny.
Now Rocky we're so glad you pointed that out.

You've now been inducted into the FJR Forum smartass club.

The president is Bust My Nuts Joker& the VP is Mr. Odot.

Just send either of those guys your initiation fee of any amount of your choosing.

And remember you don't have to apologze in advance for any smart *** comments you make when you're in the club.

Trim,

We had to set a fee due to the immense consumption of popcorn here as of late  . Seven dollars and four cents to cover the cost of posting up members names and twelve bucks popcorn club fee.

We'll even toss in a nail you can use to hang your certificate showing your membership into this exclusive club  Though we ain't giving these out, ya gotta make your own :****:

And the only excuse we allow is drunkenness. No I was mistaken, stupid, a dumb ***, being mean, etc. Just drunk

Sorry odot's call there

Thanks,

:jester:

Oh, and yep it's a shim.

hijack over

DAMN, and I was naive enough to think that if I disclosed that I knew what the penny was in the body of my question that I MIGHT escape taking that hit…… :D LOL So much for planning.

Because the bike seems to be fine without it in place, I ASSUMED it must be a non-essential part that the tech forgot to replace when he did the throttle body. Thanks for relieving me of my ignorance on this issue.
