This has not been a good week for me...

As some of you may know, last Sunday I low-sided my bike (see here)... I escaped shaken but unharmed... Then, on Monday I log into this forum and learn that one of our FJR brothers was called to ride the heavenly roads (see here).

Thursday comes around and my manager calls me, walks with me to HR and lets the bomb drop... after eleven years of continued service, Motorola has decided that I take too big of a bite out of the senior leadership bonuses and I have to go find greener pastures elsewhere... from the 71 guys in my group, only 16 will remain to clean up and turn off the lights.

I broke the news to the wife expecting her to get all sad and stuff... instead she was very enthusiastic about the whole thing, she wants to go back to Florida and start over... sooooo...

Any of you guys know of technical jobs in the Melbourne or Orlando FL area for a well behaved Communications Electronics/Systems Engineer?

Man, what a week. Sorry to hear that.

But I guess the glass could be half full. Now you have a splendid occasion of dawning opportunity. Now especially that your wife likes the idea.

Hope you can make a quick re-connection and a smooth re-location.

Double dang, Frank! Sorry about this latest news. :( Can't help you in the job department, but your wifey deserves major kudos for her support! **** happens for a reason - you'll be amply rewarded with a much better job, for sure.

Wow sorry to hear. I work at a Hospital in Morreno Vally Calif. We are hiring Electronic /communication engineers all the time.

Hang in there and get a County or State job. Good bennies.

Good luck, Dan

Try Advanced Micro Devices, (AMD) they are growing and ready to hand Intel another blow. Think they're in Texas. BTW the CEO is a former MO person too. Good luck.

what a girl give here a big kiss and a hug . this just might be the best thing that could of happened to you in the long run . be positive .

Thank you for your support.

I decided to move to FL and find a job in the Orlando or Melbourne area... NASA also sounds pretty good right now... :alien:

When I got home, my wife already had prepared a list of cities of central FL, with job growth expectations, engineering job market analysis, cost of living analysis and the whole nine yards... For heavens sake, she even had real state catalogs and was convinced that we can get a couple of acres where to build our dream house, and my dream (barn-sized) workshop...

I am starting to think that this is a blessing in disguise :)

Good luck in your job search Frank.

Over the past 25 years, I have been RIF'd three times. After the shock wore off, each one turned out to be a blessing in disguise. We have had more opportunities to explore this great country of ours and meet people from all walks of life.

With your supportive spouse everything will turn out great! And yes, I too am building our dream house now with the big three car garage and (my) workshop :D

Burn up the net and you'll find there are plenty of positions out there. Be patient and you can choose where YOU want to live.

You will let us know where you land, eh?

Sounds like your wife is a keeper. :p

And in my not so long life of almost 45 years, I have found more than once that the things that happen in our lives are mostly..... blessings in disguise..... we just have (we may not need to know) to figure out why or how.

If it makes you feel any better it could be worse.

A friend of mine in one weeks time:

1 Rear ended at a stop light with 5000 miles on a new car (takes most of the back off the car and had to file on HIS insurance and is still waiting for Their insurance to reimburse out of pocket expenses), 2 A teenager loses control of his car an drives through my friends fence in his back yard, (luckily the fence and a small tree stoped the car before the house). 3 Marriatal problems arise, 4 He slips on the stairs in his house and breaks a foot, 5 Goes into work to request light duty and is told take a hike, and the very worst that happened is 6 he came to work for me until he can find a pasture with out much poo (doesn't really care what color it is).

That is a BAD week. Talk about carma being out of line!!

You are right about Karma being out of line.

I was watching a show on TV earlier today that reminded me of how bad the month of April seems to me when it comes to recent history.

I know, I know there are many good things/events about the month of April, but for now let me cry in my beer.

I have been told it is good to cry.

After surfing a little through years of the month of April, these came up.....

-April 5-Kurt Cobain of Nirvana dies but his body is found on April 8

-April 19, 51-day stand-off at the Branch Davidian Compound ends

-April 19, Oklahoma City Bombing

-April 20, Columbine Massacre

-April 22, Richard Nixon dies

-April 23, Coca Cola changes its formula/recipe and packaging to New Coke (unsuccessfully)

-April 24-25, Operation Eagle Claw, a commando mission in Iran to rescue American embassy hostages, is aborted after mechanical problems ground the rescue helicopters. Eight United States troops are killed in a mid-air collision during the failed operation.

-April 26, Chernobyl nuclear plant explodes

But in the end, what I did see that was absolutely good about April is on the 30th, the World Wide Web was born at...

The Organisation Européenne pour la Recherche Nucléaire (European Organization for Nuclear Research or CERN)
