Frank,

Wow, a bad week for sure. Here's hoping you land on your feet very soon! Went through the same thing myself 2 years ago.

Kudos to your wife for her great attitude!! Sounds like a great partner!!

FJRocha,

Sorry to hear the bad news. I have been employed by GE in blue collar manufacturing for 20 years. My job has been on the brink of extinction for the past 6 years. I have gone from having nearly 2,000 employees below me on the seniority list to 150! Every day we come to work wondering what the future holds. To make matters worse, my wife works there too! We went back to school about a year and half ago and will continue as long as we are employed. It really cuts into my riding time because now we are working more hours (due to less employees doing more work!), going to school full-time and raising four children.

At 46, I never really planned to start over, but my philosophy is to have a positive outlook, see every obstacle as an opportunity to improve and enjoy every day. Good luck. I am sure it will work out for you. It may turn into the best experience of your life.

Shep

Oh yeah?!?! She wants to get you to Florida where there are no curves for you to fall down on! :haha:

Starting over sounds interesting and scary at the same time. It appears you have a great partner to face whatever storms that are coming. You both chose well!

As to your former employer: Success is the best revenge!

Try Lockheed Martin in Orlando... they've got a fair amount of business units in that area... as well as support at KSC.

Go here... LM open positions

Select Florida from the pulldown for "location", and Systems engineer on the "job type desired"... I got 125 hits in Florida, and the first, second, and third pages (that's all I looked through) had ones in Orlando... pages 2 and 3 even had some virtual jobs (you can work them from anywhere... usually programming types). Good luck!

I am starting to think that this is a blessing in disguise  :)
it always is...
FJRocha, +1 what wpbfjr said. That was just life giving you a kick in the butt to move you onto better things. Also welcome to the ex-Motorola employee club! After 12 years with the firm, I'm now also a recent member (California plant closing due to Business reorganization, yada, yada, yada).

It's been 25 years since I worked in the Melbourne, FL area. At the time it was mostly a Harris Corporation town, but the area's probably diversified since then. Harris's website shows lots of engineering postitions in the Melbourne/Palm Bay area.

All the Best to you!

FJRocha-

You will win. Trust me.

I have been in your situation but did NOT have the loving, caring, estrogen-endowed humanoid that you have. Be Thankful for her.

I was going through a divorce when I got laid off of from my 'dream job' .. but now would not go back to the old, 'better job' on a full time basis OR a bad bet.. Rather, I contract out to them at a freakin' ridiculous price and laugh all the way to the bank..

Be very thankful for your wife. With that kind of support you future is nothing but good!

Good Luck! (but you won't need it... ;) )

Frank,

someone keeps throwing curveballs at ya...but you are going to win in the end.

You're a solid guy and it looks as though you have a great wife.

So change the flag on your signature with this one and have a great life in Florida.

Please let us know how things develop for you.

Buena suerte. hermano!

Sorry to hear about your week. This is for the best. God has a plan for you, just not in Arizona.....in Florida.

Good luck and remember this.....beside every MAN is a good WOMAN. You're like me, we married up.

Take care and let us know where you land.

Thank you for your candid words of encouragement. You guys are the best!!!

I am looking at Lockheed as one of my better options, but I keep my doors open. I may also go into contracting/consulting. I am leaving on my way to FL in exactly one month from now.

My wife is more supportive by the day, she is very enthusiastic with the idea of moving and is helping me to research the area. I am very proud of her. My daughter (sitting on my lap right now) is very excited about the move also.

I'll keep you posted of my progress. ;)

Sad to hear the news, but wish the best with the new beginnings. I have a habit of moving every 5-6 years as it is. Starting over is always a fun adventure.

Well... the date is set... :)

I will load up the wagons, line up the mules and head East on June 20th. I'll bring the bikes with me in one of the trailers, together with all the household goods that we will need to inhabite an appartment, at least until my AZ house is sold and we can move into a new house in FL.

Things are moving along pretty good so far, but it is a lot of work to be done. I have to get the house ready for sale (patching, spackling and painting), pack all the goodies, coordinate with the moving company, round up an agressive realtor, etc, etc, etc...

Anyhow, the trip is going to be a long one in more ways than one; I am the only boy, there will be two 9 y.o. girls (are we there yet? ... are we there yet? .... are we there yet? ...), two grannies (can we stop for a pee break? ... can we stop for a pee break? ... can we stop for a pee break? ...), and my wife (are you sure we are not lost? ... why won't you ask anyone? ... Fine, if you are not going to aks, I will! ...) We are driving the SUVs each with its trailer behind (the Suburban with a 20'x8' 7000# trailer and the S10 with a 6'x12' U-Haul 4000# trailer).

Life is an adventure, and I am living it!!!!!! (are we there yet? ... )

I'll keep you posted.

Ahhhh, life is bliss! At least you're not in a conestoga, or maybe too bad your not...the girls would be walking...out of earshot... ;) Good luck with the travels.

Frank,

Best of luck with the move; may the road ahead be smooth with no potholes! ;)

Hope the job situation shakes out in your favor as well, if it hasn't already.

You might think AAA for the trip with all the females along....you know what they say saftey 1st....or is that sanity 1st with a household of females ;) ....(May god go with you...with all those females I don't think anyone else will  )

In the last couple of days I inquired after your post how the move was coming.

Awh, may you down a 'Pint of Patience' with each click of the odometer. With that big of a traveling party, lay overs for 6 will devoure a pockbook in no time flat. Good Luck! TJ
