At the Yamaha intro at Alice's yesterday, I had a chance to say a few words to Eddie Lawson, a past World Champion and someone that I am privileged to have seen race. At one point he asked what I rode and I told him that I have an R1 and an FJR1300. He said that those are the two models he has as well. Do you think he had to buy them? :yahoo:

I doubt it, be he did earn them.

Did you invite him to the next WFO? :D :D :D

Is he a member of the Forum? It brings up the idea he would have an interesting handle.....

Did he talk at all about specifics with the bikes? Likes, dislikes, farkles, etc.?

That must have been great for you! Better than the time I met and chatted with Professor Toru Tanaka.....

I did not mention the forum (sorry guys!)

Since he does have an AE, I asked him if he leaves the throttle alone while shifting or he backs off a touch. He said that he has done both methods, but didn't offer much else. I doubt seriously if he would say anything negative about a Yamaha product. I suspect Yamaha has been good to him. He was certainly good for Yamaha.

I'll never forget a couple of passes I saw him make in Turn 2 at Laguna. It was simply amazing!

Eddie Lawson was always my roadracing hero when he rode for Kawasaki. I've got my 1980 kz1300 painted like the 1982 kz1000r Eddie Lawson Replica bike.

I have a ELR in the garage...my father bought it new in 84.

The motor is blown to all hell but will never be sold..too much history between it and me.

Damn! I can't beleive I lived though those years.

That would make sense, what with all that stuff about Mexican hookers & weed smokin'. But I would think Mr. Lawson could afford the much safer Nevada versions.
I see in the paper that the silver state is about to vote to legalize weed. When at WFO...what happens in Nevada, stays in your piss for three weeks. I wonder if a recent vacation there would be a legitimate excuse for a failed test....Hmmm, I can get into NV in about 4 hours, but the wait to sober up for the ride home could be lengthy.[/hijack]
