In this order: Driver's head, driver's hands, top of front tire (for movement and direction).
The wheel is the only thing I'm really watching carefully these days. Eye contact doesn't mean squat (as Toe noted). The wheel moving means everything. Look at it first and last. Toss the other stuff in the middle if you want, but keep an eye on the wheel.

Although those spinning rims that some tuners like to use these days will freak you out...

Hell, even the ones that notice you are out to get you. I had a guy deliberately try to run me off the road the other day. I have no idea what pissed him off so much but he looked at me, started to move into my lane, and flipped me off as he was doing it. So... I downshifted, hit the throttle and got the hell out of there, never looking back. What was that all about?
That's why bikers carry ballpeen hammers and ball bearings. I won't mention names.... I would do what you suggested. As far as movement, alot of times the driver will be turning their head, or other body movement before making a lane change ect., or as mentioned the front wheel will begin to move before anything else. Ever wonder how you just get that feeling something just ain't right before it starts to happen? Stay on your game, all the time and the faster your going the faster disaster will happen. ;) PM. <><
