I had a 09 Black, the fastest color and it wasn't the perfect bike but it was a lot of fun especially on the curves.

I rode it 24kmi in about 2 yrs. in those miles it went to Arkansas, Tennesee, Kentucky, Missouri, Oklahoma, & North Carolina.

I had alot of fun on it.

In 12 I traded it on A Harley so the wife would do road trips with me and she has and this has also been fun.

A couple of months after getting the HD we did a 1200mi Arkansas, Missouri, Oaklahoma trip with friends , it was good.

This year we did a 5kmi trip through Colorado ( colorado national monument), Utah ( Arches National Park), Nevada (Hwy 50 the loneliest road & Salt Lake city), California ( Yosimitie, Sequoia National Park, Hwy 1 from Bodega Bay north to Leggett and thru the Avenue of the Giants and Humbolt redwoods, around Lake Tahoe), Wyoming ( Flaming Gorge back in to Utah)and back home to eastern Kansas.

I have enjoyed the road trips with the wife and the Bike has worked well for them I have put 24kmi on it in 1.5yrs and I do like it too. But I do miss the FJR and this forum . Maybe some day I can have another FJR the 14 sounds like a big emprovement on the 09. Too Bad the wife was never comfy on the FJR.

Either get a new FJR or a new wife?

I would never get a new wife .

Iwould also miss the Harley if I got rid of it . But if I could I would have both

As a "Do It All" bike the FJR is hard to beat. If you can only have one bike the FJR is an excellent choice.

However, we should all be allowed more than one bike. If there were room and if my wife would not kill me, there would definitely be some form of Harley Electra Glide in my garage. But, the Harley would not, could not be the only bike I have.

If my wife would ride with me I would have no problem buying a Harley. I'd even wear the T-shirts. No tattoos though.

What is it about the FJR that she doesn't like? If it is the seat there are a lot of aftermarket options and also passenger peg options that could improve the ride for her. As an added note, my wife would not ride on the previous bike I had (Bandit). She does enjoy riding on the FJR, however if it meant keeping here as a riding partner I would change bikes in a heartbeat. I am with you there.

I don't see the reason why your wife couldn't ride 2-up with you on the FJR? My wife does, or did, before she got her own bike. Lots of others on here ride 2-up. Why can't you go back to a FJR?

I don't get the wife is comfy on a HD and not a FJR either? My wife says the FJR is way more comfy than my last V-twin cruiser. She said the body position on the FJR is much better and easier on her knee's after a long day ride. If you had a stock seat for her then I could maybe see her point...but get a RDL with the extra wide wings and she'll be loving life.

I can understand the comfort difference. The passenger seat on the Electra Glide is a wonderful thing to behold. There is simply not enough room on an FJR to re-create the supremely comfortable space that is to be found on the back of the modern Harley Touring Bike.

You know that I hate to agree with Redfish Hunter but he is correct.

Long legs also can be a problem on a FJR. One of my friends put the rider peg extenders on but the first time they hit the pavement in a corner, they were removed.

Two thoughts here:

1. No, don't worry about my feelings. I'll be fine, I'll just sit over here and cry to myself.

2. You could make up for hurting my feelings if you would only contact Mrs. Redfish and tell her that I was CORRECT. She will not believe you, but you could try.

I've been sort of considering a big HD for a second bike for taking the wife. The new '14 liquid cooled bikes are interesting.

This would be a bike to take the wife on the back and mostly cruise in/around Yellowstone area, where summer traffic limits speeds anyway. $27K is a lot of money though...but the damn things do hold their value very well.

I'm not afraid to admit they have some neat features for 2-up riding. I'd take one of these over a 'wing....

Is the Harley more comfortable or more "comfortable?" As in, maybe its not the seating position so much as it is the style of bike. Cruisers are lower to the ground and slower. We sort of sit on top of the FJR and it hauls ass.

My wife loved my VTX and then I brought the FJR home. When I rolled it into the garage, she said, "That thing looks fast." On our first ride she said, "This thing is faster than it looks."

My wife days the FJR is a more comfortable ride but she liked my VTX more. She never once got sick on the VTX. She has been motion sick 4 or 5 times on the FJR because of the acceleration and braking. She has fallen asleep numerous times on the FJR but never did on the VTX.

Have you clarified what "not comfortable" on the FJR means? There's prolly no difference either way, but what ever makes both of you happy should be the way to go.
