I can't believe a powered off GPS will kill the battery, though........
VERY glad you got it running. I forgot you were Gen-II when you texted me earlier or I would have suggested the WOT cranking. I apologize for that.

You forget sooooo easily, AE's Rule! It looks like trying to fire it up with the "new" and according to them "charged all night" battery, I sucked a lot of juice out of it. It's coming back though. It finally fired up nicely and a "real" overnight charge will do the trick. I'm wondering if I fried my tender though because I had to go to my regular car batter charger.

It's Times like these that make me learn things about the world of electrons. I actually learned a thing or two today. Hope it doesn't too often.

I do not think you solved or corrected the problem. Your GPS still has power when key is off . Seems like you will be experiencing the same problem down the road. I would recheck my wiring job and maybe ask another person that you know that has experience and can trust to check your electrical work to see if there might be a problem.. Do not want to get stranded on the road some where. Might make for a long walk

NO it's not!! The thought of missing that rally got my juices flowing and although I don't like electrical problems, AT ALL, I wasn't going to stop until I got it running. No time to take it to shop for someone else to try and figure this out. It's amazing what adrenalin will do.... :))

I think that's inherent with the new Tom Tom Rider. What I'll do is just pull the cable off of it when I'm not riding. I'm going to ride it a lot tomorrow and Monday to see how it behaves. If all goes back to normal, I'll head out on Tuesday morning. Got some stops to make and people to say hello to on my way up. Thanks for the input. Every little bit helps.
 
If I'm not mistaken, the TOM TOM rider 2 has a battery? The reason it still pulls juice with the power off is to charge the battery. Can you run that unit without the battery? If so, pull the battery and leave it plugged in and your problem should be fixed.

You wouldn't think so. But, my Nuvi 550 has a battery, and it will continue to drain the battery if left plugged in as well. Enough, that if I leave it plugged in for a few days, the resting charge on the bike battery will drain down a 10th of a volt. I've never tested to see how many days it would take to drain it enough to keep it from starting. My guess would be 2 weeks.

Justin, you are absolutely correct. It does have a battery. It actually last for 5 hours. I'm not sure if the battery can be pulled but, I don't think that's necessary. What I'll do is just disconnect the cable to it when I'm not riding. I'm pretty sure that'll do the same thing. Not being an electrical guy is nerve racking at best when stuff like this happens. Thank God there are A LOT of electrical people here to walk me trough this stuff. I'm learning something new every day! :)

My time off the bike on this one was 5 days. Also, before it actually died, I noticed that it was getting weaker and weaker to start on a daily basis when I left it connected even for few days. Remember, it was a brand new top of the line Yausa that was 4 weeks old!

I have mine wired through a FuzeBlock to only get power when the key is on, so likely I wouldn't experience what you have...he says crossing fingers and toes...I'll have to try to fire it up tomorrow to be sure.

If it only gets power with the key on, then you have nothing to worry about. I just unplug the Nuvi when I'm not going to be riding.

 
I woke up and walked into the garage. The bike fired up the instant I touched the start button. Looks like all is back to normal.

a gps left plugged in charging will kill a battery,I am proof positive killed mine once charged it back up, dont leave it plugged in any more problem solved

That is my future plans exactly, Beachy. I'm an extremely fast learner once something bites me in the *** that badly. Now we all know! :)
