Beautiful photo of a beauty!

This is the Katana I had too. Again, had a Kerker 4-1 header and individual K&N filters w/ Dynojet kitted carbs and a mongo Earl's oil cooler. Great bike!

Enough bragging! Those were the days, but I'm happy with my FJR.

WTF!??!? You've had the CBX and the Katana??!?!?

I either hate you very much, or I want to be your brother. Which might be the same thing.

But back when you had those bikes. OK?

 
I can't say I really "miss" any old bikes I had. My '03 XX, as farkled, and my '05 FJR are the best of what I've owned. Can't say the same about cars, and there's a guitar or two I'd like to have back, as well. Back to bikes, though -- I would love to relive some of the times I had on my '75 Kawasaki Z1 900 while living in Steamboat Springs and on my '78 Suzuki GS1000EC while living in Tahoe City . . . especially if I can put the girls from those memories back on those bikes, too.

I had the Yamaha RD400 also, but the silver one (78...?). Until some pinhead turning left, reading a map decided to put me into the crash club.

 
A 350 Honda SL (?) It was the combination street/dirt bike. Not good in the woods as it was too heavy, not good on the street with trials tires, but it was blue and white and looked oh so good.

+1 - mine was a '71 and it was red and white - the chick just KNEW I was cool when I was on that.

BTW - the '69-74 CB,CL and SL 350 Hondas were the most popular bikes Honda every sold in the USA. Over 350,000 CB-350s and over 600,000 with all three.

 
Exskibum is right. It is certainly more the memories of what you and did and who you did it to, excuse me, did it with, that make the bikes stand out.

Here is my '75 Kaw 900 Z1 that I replaced my H2 with. the Z1 was a fantastic bike. I wish I had all the pics from those days but an ex wife has most of the albums.

My brother had a daytona special brand new in 79. Flipped and totaled and bought an sr500 with the insurance money. The RD was the bike to have when I was in high school and I always wanted one like my friends but had cl100 and cb350. Got this Rd from an original owner when he stepped up to st1100 a number of years ago. Its fun to zip around town on but doesn't handle like new machines. Most were wadded but theres still alot out there. This one stays covered in my museum/garage as a backup. The new FJR has alowed me to collect a few parts and slowly restore the RD. I recently got a new seat cover and clutch and have a locker shelf full of other parts to put on as I get time. I'll get er done...tomorow...too nice out today, I'll have to take the FJR out for a ride.

OK. Then mine must have been a 70 because the red and white ones came out the next year. I was only 15 and rode that bike all over the place with a "USA" license plate. Never got stopped, well, chased once at night but I ran knowing there was a trail not far ahead that a car could not fit through and that pretty much did the trick. Not that I recommend that or anything.

EXACTLY what I was talking about -- wish I could scan a couple old photos. I put a Windjammer fairing on my GS1000, and a beautiful long legged blond girlfriend named Ingrid made it into most of the few photos I took of that bike -- very much like the pic you posted of your Z1.

 
Since 1962 I had quite a few bikes, mostly for racing but the one I would like to have kept is this Norton. It had a late 50's Manx frame with a mid 60's 750 Atlas engine. The engine was ported, polished, race cams, lightened fly wheels, forged aluminum con rods, and had that pure castor oil smell. Whole thing weighed 305 lbs wet. By today’s standards it wouldn’t even be good for track days but with some lights and mufflers it would have made a fun café bike.

Actually there is one other bike I would have liked to have kept. It was my first Yamaha, a 63 Ascot Scrambler. My wife tossed all the pictures of mine which was heavily modified for flat track but I found this one on the WEB of how they looked out of the crate.

59 Bonneville, First year it was made. Bought it for $300, rode the living **** outta it for 3 yrs, sold it for $350. Thought I had done a hellava deal until I found out there were only three 59 Bonnies brought into Canada. Luckily a fellow ended up with it who knew what he had and restored it years later.

 
Those old bikes are never as good as you remember. I built a very trick cb750k along about 1980, aluminum swingarm, lay down shocks, gs1000 front clip, russ collins big bore kit, Hannigan fairing. I remember it as big, smooth, fast and comfortable. I sold it way back when for a ridiculous amount of money and recently had a chance to ride it again. Compared to anything modern it just plain sucks.

 
I had always lusted after a CBX, until I actually got a hold of one. A 1981 model which had sat in a showroom for a while until I bought it.

Straight out of the shop, (a Honda dealer who personally owned two of the earlier models), and I had problems with the rear prolink unit.

Got that repaired under warranty, then the starter relay began playing up, followed closely by the clutch. Ended up selling it after only

about 9 months, and bought an FJ1100, which I loved every minute of.

Also had a 1991 ZXR750 for a few years which was a blast to ride, but ate rear tires for breakfast. Only sold it because I emigrated to the

USA and it was too expensive to have it shipped. (Last ever photo taken of me when I lived in Scotland was aboard the Ninja, about five

minutes before I left to catch the plane!)
