I purchased this new Yamaha leather coat and pants from a fellow forum member a few years ago. They have hung in the closet for a few years because I wasn't sure if they were appropriate for use on an FJR or my long lost FZ1 out on the street. Last weekend I took them out of the closet, cut off the tags and used them for an advanced riders school and liked the way they fit and looked. My question is could I get away with wearing these leathers on the FJR or would I look like a fool riding out on the street. Other than the removable knee pucks they appear to be made for the street rather than the race track.

I like the leathers. Might make it more difficult to talk your way out of a

speeding ticket, however.

You need a matching helmet now.

Ya have a point there. It would be hard to convince the nice officer that your just out for a pleasant ride and wasn't paying attention to my speed when I'm dressed like a squid.

I have a helmet like this that would match nicely.

I was just in the mood for the hair on fire look the day I was on the track.

Whatever cranks your tractor. Just so long as you're concentrating on your riding, not on how you look.

On speeding tickets: most days I ride with a tie on (tucked into my jacket, of course). Only been pulled over once, not for speeding, but for rapid acceleration. Funny, I never took the engine over 4500 rpms that day. Most days I never do. Glad I wasn't doing any genuine rapid acceleration. But you have a good point here. The way you dress will definitely affect things when you're facing an officer. That leather suit makes a statement, and not one that you want an officer to hear. But so also will your attitude. I got a warning that day.

Zilla can you weigh in on this?

If the leathers are weather compatible and comfortable wear 'em. My nearly leather durometer mesh also has armor in the significant contact points for a little extra padding in the common touch-down areas, how about the leathers?

My brother the LEO says that if you only wear a dress shirt and tie once every 4 years, make it the day you get your driver's license picture. In my case, he also says that if I get pulled over, take my helmet off and let the cop get a good long look at my (receding) gray hair  The last time I had significant police interaction it was for egging on a squid on a sport bike. The cop that stopped us looked at my gray hair, my white shirt & tie on my license and then he leaned over and said, "Aren't you a little old to be acting like this?"

So wait. You come on a forum where folks wear high viz roadcrafters, and ask fashion advice about how you look on your bike? Seriously? It's not even Friday!

But since you asked, I don't think it looks out of place at all. Looks pretty good to me actually. And you can have that conversation with the officer, but even with the leathers I think the conversation will go better than if you were wearing a tanktop, shorts and crocks.

They wouldn't even get noticed here except someone may ask where you got them and how much. :) Full leathers are very appropriate. Wear and enjoy.

Bigjohnsd hit it right on the head. Wear them! They look good. Don't concern yourself with what other people think. They aren't riding the bike, you are! Enjoy! :)

Lose the knee pucks and go for it! (unless you get a knee down on the street, then you have other problems).

One problem is that when I wear my leathers, it seems to be a sub-conscious green light to ride like a hooligan, Your mileage and LEO stops may vary.

I think they look cool. Of course, I wear a screaming yellow suit and helmet, much to the bafflement of some of my colleagues. As has been said, who cares about how you look, if you like them and they are comfy, go for it!
