Still looking at getting myself a used FJR. Haven't decided Gen1 or Gen2 yet but did find this one that has rather intrigued me a few hours away. I hope some of you with a much more trained eye than me would like to play a little ISpy game and help me decifer the extras? Don't know enough about these bikes to tell what is stock or what isn't. The trunk obviously isn't, but even at that i don't know if this is yamaha's trunk or another vendor. Thanks!

Looks to have aftermarket seat, aftermarket exhaust, obviously topcase, can't tell for sure but maybe the FZ1 mirrors that project out wider so you can see behind you without moving your arms.

That mileage is low for a 2005.

Wow, totally missed the exhaust and would have never seen the mirrors. Seat didn't look stock but i really didn't know for sure.

Interesting note on the mileage... i thought it was high. Shows what i know.

Thanks

For a Harley that might be a lot of miles...but not a bike made for touring.

2011-2004 = 7 years

35k miles/ 7years = 5k miles per year.

I average > 10k miles per year.

Of course, you can ALWAYS tell the salesman that 35,000 miles seems like a lot of miles. ;)

I'll play:

Seat is definitely a Rick Mayer dual custom. Worth ~$400-450.

Rear trunk is the Yamaha Accessories version, worth ~$350-400

Windshield is definitely the AYAMAY touring screen, worth ~$60-75.

Exhaust cans look to be Muzzy, can't tell for sure. worth $200-250

I think those are the stock mirrors. My FZ1's seem to stick out past the bar ends further than those. If they are FZ1 mirrors that's another ~$50

All values based on them being used. They each cost considerably more to buy new.

It is a MY 2005, but if it was an early one it may have been put in use late in '04.

"Very Clean" is how it is advertised. I would have to disagree. It's been ridden that's for sure. The front chin spoiler is either filthy or just needs be cleaned up or is beat to hell I can't be sure, has some deep scrapes on the paint on the tank...etc. Doesn't even look like dealer has washed the windshield yet. LOL. You'd think they'd at least clean the damn thing before they post pictures of it.

I'd have to see it in person to really tell the condition it is in and if the previous owner took good care of it or ragged the crap out of it. Based on what I see I'm leaning towards the latter.

I got my 2005 last year and it only had 3,800 miles on it...which I realize is very rare & unusual.

I'd keep looking and find a better condition, lower mileage bike. What's your price limit?

+1 on the dirt factor. I know that you as a new owner might choose to never clean your bike again, but when you buy one, having it clean lets you see the actual condition under the road grime.

Here's a bike you might want to consider in lieu of the dealers bike in the OP. Considerably less money and no doubt is in better condition.

I suppose when you put it that way... i put 4kish a year on my harley, and its not that comfortable... i suppose my comparison in my head was that mine is a 2006 with 12k, but i bought it new in 08...

Wow, where is the :notworthy: emoticon when you need it. Incredible eye.

I don't disagree, you would think they would wash the bugs off the front before taking pictures. You would also think that a dealership trying to sell online would invest in a camera that is better than whatever dispoable POS they were using...

Finding an 05 with 3,800 miles seems a little crazy. I could find one with 10k but that scares me a little too. If the guy didn't care about it enough to ride it, do you think he cared about it enough to maintain it?

I might email them and see if they have cleaned it up and if they could take some better pictures (close ups) of any scratches, dings, etc. I'm expecting some boot marks on the bags, but something well taken care of shouldn't have any deep gouges anywhere.

Seconding Angus's bike Fred W linked to--mileage is much the same, both have after-market seats (Corbin vs. Mayer, slight advantage: Mayer), 3 windscreens, advantage Angus; factory trunk: even; heated grips and heat troller, advantage: Angus; thousand bucks cheaper, advantage Angus. "Few hours away" vs. Elizabeth, NJ, (827 miles) well, advantage New Jersey. After all, you'd get a nice long ride to get to know your new Feej. Good luck whatever you get, as long as it's an FJR.
