I still can't believe it, I bought a....

My wife's laptop (an old HP) is just about to go **** up so I decided to get her a new computer before school starts. Considering how often I've had to help her on the phone with things like, "Go to the Start Menu, click Run, type CMD" etc, etc, to fix issues that never happen when I'm on her computer, I walked into the Mac Store. I asked if the new Macs would hook up to my Windows network. I was assured it would.

I did a little more research, and finally decided to take the plunge. I wanted her to have a fully automated back up system between her laptop and desktop in the event she her laptop was lost, stolen or broken. I ended up buying a 24" iMac and a Mac Book. Thus far, I am extremely impressed.

It instantly connected to my Windows network allowing easy transfer of about 150GB of data thus far (including music, pictures, and documents). I have all of my Firefox settings migrated over, and I'm waiting for her email to back up so I can transfer all of the Thunderbird settings as well. Using the new version of Open Office called NeoOffice, I can now open all of her Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word Perfect documents as well....for free!!!

The screen is HUGE, and very bright. I was never an iTunes fan on the PC, but it rocks on the Mac.

But the best part is, it's very intuitive. She is able to use it with very little assistance.

Got my mom an iBook four years ago, her biggest problem since then is that sometimes she accidentally drags an icon off of the dock and needs help getting it back. Switched my brother to a Mini a year later and the worst he's managed to do is forget the password.

Gave a very close friend my old Dell laptop last year and about twice a month I get a phone call that makes me regret being a cheap ******* and not buying her a Macbook...

You also have the option of, in a pinch, actually being able to install Windows on one or both.

But the best part is, it's very intuitive. She is able to use it with very little assistance.

Ya'll are really going to enjoy those. "Intuitive" is the right word. Stuff works the way a non-computer-expert thinks they should. They're very easy to get desired resluts. I've never had a computer class in my life, yet I manage to make a living with a Mac.

I bought an Imac DV after virus issues with a compac computer.

8 years ago. Grape cause that is what the kids wanted. Now I have bought an Emac. powerbook, two macbooks and a macbook pro.

All work except the powerbook. Seems red wine is not good to pour into the keyboard. I won't ever go back to a Windows based computer. EVER! And the Grape sits and purrs in the corner. Working as fine today as 8 years ago.

Daughter went to work for Apple two weeks ago. Part of the first interview was. "do you own a mac" Ha! she went into a long story about her love of Coffee and Apple computers and they hired her on the spot. And because her Name was unique. I am waiting on a thankyou gift for giving her that name... Mac book Air I think!

I just picked up my new 24" iMac on Friday. I've got CS3 sitting here waiting to be loaded and after a trip to Ikea today, I have a new frosted glass table workstation. Quark 8 and Microsoft Office are on the way and I'm making myself hold off on a new chair, Time Capsule and a Wacom pad, but I don't think I'll be able to hold out very long.

This was an expensive week here for me, but I can now get my business going and make some money to pay for all this!

I decided to have her try NeoOffice instead of buying the Microsoft stuff. So far, it is working like a charm!!! And it's free!!! It is essentially OpenOffice made for a Mac.

One question I have is when working with a table in Word and I want to delete the contents of multiple cells without deleting the cells, how do I do it? I've been deleting one cell at a time and its a huge pain.

One question I have is when working with a table in Word and I want to delete the contents of multiple cells without deleting the cells, how do I do it? I've been deleting one cell at a time and its a huge pain.

Good question, I just tried it myself and it wanted to delete/merge cells. I found the trick is to select the cells to clear, and then use the "forward delete" key (on the MacBook this hold the fn-key and delete key).
