sorry about your drop.

as others have mentioned, consider the fz1 mirrors. i did the swap last weekend and it's worth it (also as others have mentioned).

Ouch! Been there, done that, but I was able to ease the bike down (nearly tore a hamstring doing it though!)

I'm glad the previous owner of my FJR installed sliders!

Sorry to hear about the drop. I dropped mine while at a standstill in a parking lot and luckily my mirror didn't get damaged. The slider did it's job and so did the saddlebag  , but minimal damage.

For the price that you guys are paying for a single FJR mirror from the dealer, you can get a set of FZ1 mirrors from zanottimotors.com. I just got a set for my bike for $38 a piece.

Damn! I can't believe I have to post here too. I dropped my bike today at 0 m/h at the parking lot. It happened so fast all I can say is "s**t sliders!". I eased it down and almost tore a muscle and picked it up again.

Thinking back, it happened in a parking lot of Capital One bank, I was bitching after at the manager (I have an appointment with her) about how dirty the parking lot with is those little rocks rolling off my boots I might as well wear rollerblades.

But thank sliders! Spent $20 bucks on it and it done its job. The only scratch is on the slider and nothing else. Not even on the bags.

The first time I dropped a bike is maybe 20 years ago. Once its going down, there is no way up. I wish i live on the moon!

Sorry about the drop. But I would be more interested in why it stalled?
I do think there was a problem on the o6. You may want to check the tech area about that problem...
I had the ECU recall done. I think the throttle bodies may need adjusting. A couple of times lately, the bike doesn't want to run right for the first minute of riding. The motor acts like it's fuel starved or not getting enough air. Then it will clear up and run like a scalded dog.

I've had my 2007 stall twice on me and I swear I didn't do it! Both times were fully warmed up and had been idling at a light. Fortunately I was going straight so not a problem of dropping it... just looking really stupid  Wonder if this unexpected stalling behavior has a common cause?

I was pulling out of a parking spot, rolling on the throttle into a lean when the bike stalled. As soon as the motor quit I went down. The mirror took most of the damage. The side bag is scuffed as well but thankfully the sider protected the faring. This isn't the only time the motor has quit on me when starting out. I had let the bike warm up for about 30 seconds before I took off but I guess I need to give it some more time.
Any idea on how much it costs to replace the mirror??

You may have already heard of this recall on faulty position sensors, but it mimics what you say you are experiencing> This recall covers the 2003-2005 model year bikes:

Make : YAMAHA Model : FJR1300 Year : 2003-2005

Manufacturer : YAMAHA MOTOR CORPORATION, USA Mfr's Report Date : SEP 27, 2006

NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 06V371000

PE06020

NHTSA Action Number: PE06020

Component: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Potential Number Of Units Affected : 39757

Summary:

ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, AN IMPROPERLY DESIGNED THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR COULD CAUSE AN INTERMITTENTLY UNSTABLE IDLE WHEN THE ENGINE IS AT IDLING SPEED WHEN THE MOTORCYCLE IS STOPPED OR DURING LOW-SPEED OPERATIONS. THE ENGINE COULD STALL AS A RESULT.

Consequence:

IF THE ENGINE STALLS AFTER THE OPERATOR DISENGAGES THE CLUTCH IN A LOW GEAR WHILE RIDING, THE REAR TIRE MIGHT SLIP MOMENTARILY IF THE OPERATOR ABRUPTLY RE-ENGAGES THE CLUTCH. THIS COULD RESULT IN A CRASH WITH INJURY OR DEATH.

Remedy:

DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 16, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT YAMAHA AT 1-888-88-YAMAHA.

CUSTOMERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION¿S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.

Hey IBJanky where did you find a mirror for $86.00 I did the newbie fall a few months ago on some frost on the grass coming out of the garage and the cheapest I was able to find the mirror for was 99.00. Thanks in advance. Please PM me Wanderlust.

If I was looking for a factory mirror, I'd go to a site with an online microfish (like ronayers.com) and get the part number. Then I'd head over to zanottimotors.com and order it. You'll be pleasantly surprised how little it costs compared to your obviously marked up dealer costs.

I have dropped my bike as well. Scratched the mirror as you did. If you go to https://www.colorrite.com you can get a spray paint the exact color as your bike. You also have to buy the Urethane coat to apply after the paint. You have to essentially strip off all the paint on the mirror or the new paint will bubble underneath. Also, the paint coats are about 30 minutes apart and the urethane coat about 60 minutes after painting. Follow the directions that come with the paint. You can unscrew the mirror on the side, but notice that the washers and how they are spaced. If you decide to buy a new mirror it will cost you about $120.

Best, Brain Surgeon
