Early afternoon. I pop up to Panamint Springs for a fill-up.
You can see the road back to the valley in the distance.
I stop and stroll out to the sand dunes for a look. The midday light has washed
all ofthe drama out of the area, so I don't take many pictures.
This is looking back to the road and my ride.
There weren't many folks out here, but I spotted a couple.
I'll spend more time looking around here on my next visit.
The Devil's Cornfield, so named because back in the '90's, my ex tried her hand at farming here.
I'd been up a long time, and honestly, sleeping on the friggin' ground is not really restful,
so I headed back to Furnace Creek for a break and some lunch.
It's a pretty big complex, with golf carts running all around, and retiree sorts by the truckload.
A obviously all-female group was visiting too. (SacramentoMike, how's that shopping going?)
Campground entrance.
"Where's fluffy?"
Grabbed a couple of local brews at the store, and drank one before a siesta.
You know, my tent looks, from the outside, like a humble dwelling...
but I'd fixed it up
inside in case some babes dropped in. Ya never know.
Late afternoon, refreshed, I scurried out and up to Dante's View to catch the sunset.
The ride there was magical.
Cool air, a few wispy clouds for atmosphere, and the desert hills were changing colors as I rode.
Up on top.
Heading down and back, I pulled over, and walked out to sit in the silence for awhile.
I like it here.
Okay, darkness now. In a bit, the final day, including Rhyolite, Beatty,
and an incredibly fun ride home on some new-to-me roads.
