Great pictures of a beautiful ride. This looks like a trip I need to add to my list. This kind of post should serve as inspiration to pack up the bike and enjoy a little therapy; however the rain pounding on my front room window quickly snaps me back into the reality that I am still a few months away from extended runs in sun drenched weather. I would take 40 and dry any day of the week!!!!!!!!

OM, Nice pics, I'm headed there 4 weeks from Friday, and although it'll be my second time to DV, I can't wait! BTW, while your teeth were chattering along 99 in the wee hours of Tuesday AM, I was on Hwy 132 and 49 heading to Mariposa for Jury Duty where I saw a low of 25! Yikes! My guess is you were dealing with about a 3-10 degree chill factor. https://www.weather.gov/os/windchill/index.shtml Ping me next ride through, I'll make myself available (I'm more a Central Cal kind of guy, not a Northerner,LOL)

Very inspriring OM. Very artistic photos and I especially like the FJR in most of them. Thanks for sharing and making me want to hit the road! Well done!

Unless you remove the reflectors first, ignore the fill-flash request. . . or learn to fix 'em with Photoshop. :)

Shin cam was my favorite!!

Test picture. This was on the Blue Ridge Parkway (BRP) (East Coast). I think I was headed up the hill.

A mandantory FJR shot.

I think OM owes us the next stage of the trip as promised.

I seem to drink alot, but I think OM joined the Crash Club (CC) and is apparently better and just for the hell of it, he drive thru Death Valley on the FJR. And he had to drive a bit down the road to get there. Hell yeah! **** a damned Death Valley.

I got a saying that guides me ... when given a choice in life, choose the path that makes the best story that you will want to tell for the rest of your life.

And, if you decide to drive thru Death Valley on the FJR and you take alot of pictures (really nice pictures), and promise to send us some more, and you don't do it, well, shame on you. I am just saying ...

Art

How cool would it get at night in the desert?
Joe, it only dropped into the 50's overnight, and got just above 70 during the day. That's on the valley floor. Zooming up into the hills, it got cooler quickly of course. Overall, it could not have been nicer weatherwise. No wind. Perfectly calm.

What camera are you using?
Two of 'em. Both just point and shoots. Canons. An S5IS, and a little SD790IS. I'll be shopping for an DSLR this year.

Of course, with me, it's a lot like motorcycles. The weakness is not in the machinery. I can't begin to get the most out of my FJR or my cameras. Improving myself would be a better investment than changing equipment. (But, I'm still shopping for an SLR...and lusting for an sportbike.)

... if it has it, try turning on the flash for a "fill effect"...
I can, and of course I could dodge in the light with an editor, but that would require tremendous effort on my part.

You're very demanding, I mean, for being a male and all....

...smile damnit, your supposed to be havin fun!!!!
My secret parts were smiling.

**** I forgot the directions!!
Bust, if you knew how difficult I find tent erection, you'd see how funny that was.

(And I know you'll take "erection" and run with it,......or do something with it...that I don't want pictures or descriptions of....)

you need to do it in August to get the DV badge!
I got your badge right here Pierre. :D

Actually, dcarver and I WILL be doing it in August, to "temper" us for future hardships.

Wishing I could have met up with you when you passed through my turf ...
Oh, dear Wendell, I've got a bone to pick with you. I'll get to that in day three. (Hint- Hwy. 155)

BTW, while your teeth were chattering along 99 in the wee hours of Tuesday AM, I was on Hwy 132 and 49 heading to Mariposa for Jury Duty where I saw a low of 25!
This cold here has been ridiculous CAJW! You'd think we were in freakin' Owosso.

Hell yeah! **** a damned Death Valley.
Damn straight Art!

Well, here's a little Photostory from a trip I did to DV last year to fill in the gap while OM gets his beauty rest.
Excellent Tyler. I even liked the soundtrack. It must be nice to have friends to ride with.

Yeah - my wife and I teach beginners how to get the most out of their camera no matter which one they use. Upgrading your own knowledge is better and cheaper - but not as much fun as buying new gear. :)

Old Michael,

Your night photos has so little noise on it for a point and shoot. I have an S3. What ISO or speed did you set it to?

Those photos are amazing. The blacks are reproduced well, that's how I judge the quality my pictures.

I'm waiting for Canon SX1 IS to come out. It has CMOS sensor too. :yahoo:

Sprung from my sleeping bag the next morning, wanting to get out and see the sunrise and morning light.

Decided to buzz around taking a few early pics, and then head north for breakfast at Stovepipe Wells.

First, down the road toward Badwater.

Didn't go to Badwater. Didn't want to.

Turned around and headed back through my Furnace Creek oasis.

Beemer crowd stays there, probably.

IMG_0587.jpg

Lush greenery seems out of place here.

IMG_1487.jpg

It'd be nice to be able to stop time for awhile.

IMG_1507.jpg

Hungry and craving caffeine.

Moto Guzzi?

IMG_1523.jpg

After brekkie, I headed west looking looking for Wildrose Canyon. Really neat area.

IMG_1538.jpg

IMG_0606.jpg

The road to the breast furnaces charcoal kilns.

IMG_1544.jpg

Once it turned to gravel, with fist sized rocks, I turned back.

Riding solo, and because of chest injuries and infirmity, I doubted I'd be able

to pick up my bike if I fell down on it.

And there was NOBODY else out here, so I figured I'd waste a bunch of

my day if I had a mishap. Or it could just be that I'm a pavement *****. :D :finger:

Staying focused, I carried on.

IMG_1554.jpg

Alone for hours, my thoughts turned to my forum brethren.

IMG_1561.jpg

Back on the main road, I'm putting along at about 50, looking for photo ops,

and Harley dude roars by me, in MY

lane, gassing it, pipes roaring, doing about 80. How childish was that?

So I waits a few seconds, and then I chase him down and pass HIM at about a buck thirty.

Just joshing. :D

Gotta get more photos.

I'll continue shortly.

There's really something to be said for the contrast and the vast expanse of Death Valley. There really isn't a way to describe or picture what must be experienced, but your photos are an excellent expression of the beauty.

....we will be walking "The Pace" and stay hydrated. Be aware of the person behind you and wait for them at a turn so nobody gets lost.

Great pictures, nice clouds. ;)

Or it could just be that I'm a pavement *****. :D
Or you're becoming wise, pilgrim. B)

Very nice, sir. Well done.

OM, "Hey dude, I know it's Sunday afternoon but I'm headed for Death Valley in a couple of hours, wanna come along?"

Dude, "I'm sorry, I work for a living and the boss actually expects me to show up tomorrow morning."

OM, "These f@$^ing NorCal sissies never want to ride anymore."

Early afternoon. I pop up to Panamint Springs for a fill-up.

You can see the road back to the valley in the distance.

IMG_1566-1.jpg

I stop and stroll out to the sand dunes for a look. The midday light has washed

all ofthe drama out of the area, so I don't take many pictures.

This is looking back to the road and my ride.

IMG_1567.jpg

There weren't many folks out here, but I spotted a couple.

I'll spend more time looking around here on my next visit.

IMG_1571-1.jpg

The Devil's Cornfield, so named because back in the '90's, my ex tried her hand at farming here. :D

IMG_1579.jpg

IMG_1520-1.jpg

I'd been up a long time, and honestly, sleeping on the friggin' ground is not really restful,

so I headed back to Furnace Creek for a break and some lunch.

It's a pretty big complex, with golf carts running all around, and retiree sorts by the truckload.

IMG_1585.jpg

A obviously all-female group was visiting too. (SacramentoMike, how's that shopping going?)

IMG_1584.jpg

Campground entrance.

"Where's fluffy?"

IMG_1591.jpg

Grabbed a couple of local brews at the store, and drank one before a siesta.

IMG_1594.jpg

You know, my tent looks, from the outside, like a humble dwelling...

IMG_1593.jpg

but I'd fixed it up inside in case some babes dropped in. Ya never know.

Late afternoon, refreshed, I scurried out and up to Dante's View to catch the sunset.

The ride there was magical.

Cool air, a few wispy clouds for atmosphere, and the desert hills were changing colors as I rode.

Up on top.

Heading down and back, I pulled over, and walked out to sit in the silence for awhile.

I like it here.

Okay, darkness now. In a bit, the final day, including Rhyolite, Beatty,

and an incredibly fun ride home on some new-to-me roads.

Another inspirational report. I gotta' go to DV now.

Quit taking such awesome pictures; They make me want to smash my camera.

When you kept inviting me into your tent in Morro Bay, I had no idea it was so nice inside.

Michael... how many times must we tell you... NO FLYING!!!! :dribble:

Staying focused, I carried on.

Hmmmmm... that pics looks familar. :glare:

Dante's Peak if one of my very favorite places to go when in DV... I love the road up to the top... but it is so difficult to get a non-hazy shot... I think morning time is better with the sun on the other side of the valley. It is quite awe inspiring any way you look at it... looking forward to the final chapter! B)
