I have the FJR navigator mounting kit fitted between the handlebars and my Zumo 660 mounted onto it.....this is driving me nuts... :(

I tried it in the usual clutch reservoir position too...

I want to mount the Zumo either directly above and slightly forward of the speedo or the rev counter but not sure if the plastic is up to it. I've searched and there is a mount for the Pan-Euro that fits in this position, but not the FJR....so here is my question....

Does anyone know if there is a RAM mount available that fits the FJR in this position...or should I just get the diamond RAM mount (https://www.ram-mount.co.uk/diamond-base-with-1-ball-p-1271.html), remove the clocks and securely fit it....?

The only way I know of to do what you want is to install a dash shelf. That's what I have. It fits on top of the instrument cluster and I have a bunch of things mounted on it, including my GPS.

Thanks for that, I had never heard of an FJR dash shelf before. I'll have a gander at them...

+1 on the dash shelf

nonwaterproof stuff stays almost 100% dry on the shelf under the windscreen as well

IMO dash shelves are practical but FUGLY!
Yeah, I guess it's a personal choice thing, but the shelf puts your GPS (and radar detector) where you can see them without having to look down. Your attention is not diverted from the road ahead nearly as much as it is when you're looking down into the instrument cluster to see how fast you're going.

Agreed, and it lets you put your GPS slightly left (or anywhere else you want it) so it is accessible with your left hand. Your GPS also ends up more vertical which keeps the glare down, but I also use a Glarestomper to help with that. I don't think they look too bad actually, and there is a new version for Gen II's. They won't work with V-STrom hand guards.

Someone built a bracket sometime back (a couple of years???) that attached to the back of the instrument cluster so that a GPS could be mounted above the cluster, but I can't find it now. Maybe someone with more searching skills (or luck! :D ) could find it.

Thanks guys...I've had a look at these dashes....and I'm not too keen to be honest...

I do like the sound of an instrument cluster bracket though, all I need to get is a 1" ram ball above the rev counter...oh well, plastic removal time...

Not sure about yours, but I have this big clear piece of lexan above my instruments that would definitely interfere with a Ram mount coming out the top.

But it might make a handy mounting place for a GPS. Why not just drill a hole(s) in the windshield and mount your GPS up there? Replacement windshields are cheap.

Why's it driving you nuts mounted between the handlebars
I'm used to riding a BMW 1200 GS and it had a bar around the instrument cluster that I clamped the ram mount to. I find the gps screen is too low/close for me in the navigator mount, I'm used to flicking my eyes at the dash and seeing it there. I can't really see it now without moving my head and taking my eyes off the road. I've bought a flat plate with a 1" ram ball on it and I'm gonna mount it above the lhs indicator light on the fairing plastic (braced underneath). I still get full/free screen movement...will post a pic when I sort it.

Man...That's just a muscle memory issue. Give the new mounting position some time, and it will be just as natural as it always was. Re-learning muscle memory is way cheaper than adding unnecessary stuff to your bike.

Very Wise Words, AJ! But you completely forgot about Patriot-Mike, didn't you!? Mike adds unnecessary shit to his FJR, just for the practice. UPS truck skirting and Freightliner air horns!

I can see his point. I've been riding with a GPS for several years now, and I would like to have it up above the instruments too. That way you do not have to tip your head down to glance at the screen. As much as we all like to say that we follow GPS Jill's voice commands, it is sometimes necessary to glance at the screen. And any time we do that we are taking a chance something will pop up in the road in front of us.

i can't figure out how to link to it but if you look thru my post you will see how i mounted mine. i like the location and a lot of others have commented on how well it looked.

Here you go Roy:

Link assist

That does look like a better location.

I'm not sure how well the taller zumo 450/550 would fit there with the windshield, but I have a feeling I'm going to try and find out... ;)

Either that or I may take my own advice and sacrifice an old stock windshield and drill mounting holes for a GPS bracket in that. That could end up being even better.

I like the bracket Just Roy made, thats what I wanted to do...anyway I've listened to what you all advise, I have tried to strip plastic to get the ram ball up there...but I have given up, its in the 'too hard to fix box' for now.

So then...plan B is completed and here is the Navigaor kit with a 3" s/steel extension fitted. Speedo is still visible and I can even get the key in & out too...

Just completed a 4 day tour of the Scottish Highlands to test it out and all is well... :D
