The IBA got fast all of a sudden.
I completed my FIRST IBA ride, a SS1K, on May 8th. On May 30th I was out of town and talking to my wife on the phone
when she says, "Guess what came in the mail today...something you thought would take a while to get here." I had no clue.
When she told me my ride certification package was there I couldn't believe it. I'd read lots of post saying it would take a
minimum of 3 months and probably more like 6 months. Needless to say I was/am very happy. Bike looks great with the
"world toughest riders" plate on it!
I didn't post my ride cause it was nothing special. But here are the details. Left El Paso, TX at 6AM headed west for Tucson, AZ
on I-10. Traveled north through Phoenix, AZ to Flagstaff, AZ on I-17. Turned east on I-40 to Albuquerque, NM. Took another right
and headed south back to El Paso on I-25. All superslab. Not real interesting...but not knowing what exactly to expect, I wanted
my FIRST SS to have a high probability of success. I completed 1171 odo/151 gps/150 IBA miles in 17 hrs and 40 min. I took
more gas stops (7) than necessary...and made them longer (18min) than needed. But that made the trip very easy. Lots of snacks
in the tank bag with a 3 liter hydration bladder and a sandwich built at home made the eating/drinking easy as I cruised. Two amp
drinks (one in Gallup and one in Socorro) kept me perfectly alert.
Russel seat, Heli TC, peg lowerers, Cee Baily windscreen, slider-mounted highway pegs made it comfy start to finish. Living in El Paso,
the next IBA ride will naturally be a BtoB ride.
